The hosts are struggling to get their strikers Alcacer and Negredo involved in the game. That's illustrated by the fact that Casillas hasn't had a single save to make so far. That needs to change for Valencia.

Perez talks his way into the referee's book. In fairness to the Valencia player Marcelo did look to dive to win the freekick. The home team's temper is just starting to fray slightly.

Isco hacks down Gaya, to perhaps get a bit of payback for the Valencia player's challenge earlier in the game. But where is the yellow card for the Real Madrid playmaker?

Although their team have eased off since going behind, the home fans inside the Mestalla have not lost their gusto. They are making an almighty noise to try and push Valencia forward!

How did he not score?! Bale's cross is taken round the goalkeeper in close quarters by Ronaldo, who somehow manages to shoot into the side netting after he'd done all the hard work.

Well that was bizarre. Gaya is shown a yellow card as the referee adjudges that he entered the pitch before he was allowed to. But surely that was the mistake of the fourth official, not the player?

Valencia have been forced into a change in this first half. Piatti looked to pull up, and Gaya comes on. He's more of a natural fit at full-back anyway. That might not actually be too bad for the hosts.

Barragan and Isco have been at each other for much of this game, and the former fouls the latter on the edge of the box after some neat play from the playmaker. That's a battle to keep.

Valencia have taken their foot off the pedal since they went a goal down. They didn't deserve to go behind like they did, but it was a clear handball from Negredo.

Bale cuts inside on to his right foot to curl a cross into the penalty area for Ramos, who is up from the back to attack, but the defender can't get enough on his header and Alves saves.

That wasn't the most convincing punch from Casillas, who came off his line for a cross, but Alcacer's spectacular overhead kick flashes just over the crossbar. Not great from the Real keeper.
