Hello and welcome to Eurosport's live commentary of Athletic Club's clash with Atletico Madrid. My name is Liam Twomey and I'll be taking you through all the action as Diego Simeone's men look to continue their La Liga title challenge at San Mames.

Groans ripple around San Mames as Benat elects to take Athletic's second corner of the match short, but De Marcos' attempted return pass to Muniain bobbles straight out of play.

Thomas races to the byeline during another purposeful Atletico attack, and his promising cutback rattles dangerously between two Athletic defenders with Torres waiting to pounce. They just about manage to clear and Augusto's subsequent effort from just outside the penalty area drifts well over.

Atletico push straight down the other end of the pitch and after his right-footed shot is blocked, Saul unleashes again with his left and controversially wins the visitors' first corner of the match.

Benat elects to go for goal with the free kick, but his effort flies well over Oblak's crossbar.

A prolonged spell of Athletic possession ends with Muniain jinking inside from the left and luring Thomas into a rash foul. The hosts have a free kick around 30 yards out and Benat can choose to cross or shoot from here...

Benat - the man who missed the decisive penalty in that Europa League shootout with Sevilla - is warmly applauded by San Mames as he jogs over to take the corner, but his resulting delivery is poor and Atletico clear the danger at the near post.

Athletic probe down the right and Susaeta's attempted cross is shut down by Filipe Luis, leading to a corner for the home side.

Atletico are happy to camp inside their own half when Athletic have the ball, and the home side appear equally content to build possession patiently around their defence. When they do venture forward though, the movement and direct running of Muniain is already causing problems.

Atletico are starting to show more attacking ambition and Filipe Luis caps his first foray forward with a dangerous curling cross from the left that flies just above the head of the stretching Torres.

Atletico venture forward and Griezmann's clever chip sends Koke darting into the left channel, but the Spaniard can't control the bouncing ball and De Marcos comes across to put the ball out for a throw.

Really bad news for Atletico, as Godin limps from the pitch after seemingly picking up an injury in that last Athletic attack. Lucas comes on to partner Savic in the heart of the visiting defence and, with crucial matches in La Liga and the Champions League coming up, Atletico fans will hope that it's just a precaution.

We have our first shot and it comes courtesy of the home side. Good combination play between Benat and Muniain works the latter into a pocket of space around 30 yards out, and the winger sends a bouncing shot straight into the arms of Oblak.

Athletic work the ball neatly from left to right as they surge forward but despite a couple of neat flicks, the ball is lost to Godin who clears.

Godin hits a long ball over the top for Torres to chase and while the former Chelsea striker is beaten in a race by Iraizoz, he claims that the Athletic goalkeeper put his hands on the ball just outside his area. Referee Juan Martinez Munuera takes no action.

It's a scrappy opening, with both teams looking to press the other into mistakes and more passes going astray than finding their targets. Hopefully everyone's just getting warmed up...

Iraizoz fires a long kick upfield but Raul Garcia is penalised for a foul while flicking the ball on, and Atletico are awarded a free kick in their own half.

And we're under way! Athletic look to impose themselves with an assured spell of possession in the opening seconds.

Torres and Godin appear to have warmed up for this match with a Macarena-inspired exercise routine. In any case, the players are walking onto the pitch, San Mames is in fine voice and we're minutes away from kick-off...

Barcelona's recent collapse has given Atletico a fresh sniff of a La Liga title they must have privately thought was lost, and a victory here is crucial to keep the pressure on Luis Enrique's struggling men. Expect two men in particular to be influential - Fernando Torres has scored in his last three league matches, while Koke has assisted in his last four.

Athletic have only lost three of 16 La Liga matches at San Mames this season, and a continuation of that home form will play a key role in any unlikely late challenge to Villarreal for fourth place. Atleti, however, are the strongest visiting side in the division, with 37 of their 76 points coming away from the Vicente Calderon. Something's got to give...

Atletico also make four changes to the side that dismissed Granada 3-0 on Sunday, with Diego Godin, Filipe Luis, Augusto Fernandez and Thomas Partey all brought back in.
