That last chance was just a reminder that while Real Madrid have undoubtedly had the better of the play so far, they can be rather vulnerable at the back. Alaves can get at them.

CHANCE FOR ALAVES! That was a much better opportunity for Deyverson than he perhaps realised. The ball came back into the area after a fumbled catch by Casilla, but Deyverson headed over from six yards.

JUST WIDE OF THE TARGET! That's the best passing move of the match with Danilo cutting it back for Bale, but the Welshman's strike dribbles just past the far post with Pacheco beaten.

The home supporters aren't happy with that decision from the officials. Modric had broken in behind but used an arm to get into that position, knocking the ball past the defender.

It's quite clear that Alaves are doing their best to deny both Bale and Ronaldo the service they usually get, but they are having less luck denying Benzema any service.

Casilla came flying off his line to make a clearance and nearly gets caught out. That's not the first time that has happened to the Real Madrid goalkeeper this afternoon. Strange.

Could Deyverson have done more with that? The cross came into the box from the left side for the Brazilian attacker, but his glancing header was never going to trouble Casilla.

There was some tussling inside the area before a corner kick between Ronaldo and Laguardia, but the referee decides to take no action as Ronaldo ends up on the ground.

Benzema had probably been the liveliest Real Madrid player on the pitch so it was fitting that he should open the scoring with such an impressive striker. He's in really good form.

The home side are in control of this match now. They are dictating the possession, with Alaves having to fight to just get a touch of it. They need to come out their shells, here.

The Alaves players were appealing that Ronaldo, who was in an offside position, interfered with play as Benzema's shot flashed into the far corner of the net. The claims were waved away, though.

It's just not happening for Modric at the moment. He has so far looked a little lost in the middle of the match. He is lacking in support and has been left to do a lot on his own.
