Well, that was simple enough for Barcelona. Valverde rotated his squad ahead of next week's Champions League game in Lisbon and in the end it worked. Girona impressed in spells but they rarely troubled their bigger Catalan brothers. This was a comfortable performance from Barca.

That was one of the criticisms of Barcelona last season - that they didn't have the depth to rotate their squad. Well, they added options over the summer and that is now having an effect.

While this hasn't been the most comprehensive of performances from Barcelona, Valverde will be pleased with how the game has transpired. They have won without exerting too much effort.

This match has become disjointed in the past 10 minutes or so due to all the changes as yellow cards.

Moreno comes on for Girona. He replaces Maffeo, who was surely close to being sent off.

MASCHERANO INJURY? This is concern for Barcelona. The Argentine defender is caught on the knee with the studs of a Girona player, but he seems to be okay now. Back on his feet.

In a sense, Girona have managed to keep Messi under wraps this evening. Maffeo has done a man marking job on him, but some of the tackling has been a little over the top.

Messi is taken down again pretty cynically. Maffeo has already been booked, but the referee doesn't even take note. In fact, he didn't even award Barcelona the freekick. Play on...

Barcelona have been pretty clinical with their chances tonight. They might have a comfortable three-goal lead, but they haven't really created much other than the goals they have scored.
