This has been a very entertaining start to the match. It doesn't feel like either side really has control of the contest yet. There's a lot of energy, but not a great deal of quality.

Just before that goalscoring opportunity for Bale, which came as a result of a miscommunication, there was a mix up between Navas and Varane. A common theme so far.

RODRIGO FIZZES OVER! Now there's a chance for the home side after a cheap giveaway by Real Madrid, but Rodrigo couldn't get over the ball and fires over the target.

REAL SHOULD BE AHEAD! That was the chance for Bale to put the visitors ahead. A miscommunication at the back presented the ball to the Welshman on the half volley, but he skews his shot at Neto.

It should be noted that Coquelin is playing in central defence for Valencia this afternoon! He was signed from Arsenal last week... as a central midfielder. Has he even played as a defender before?

RONALDO IS DOWN! This will be a worry for Real Madrid. Ronaldo went for a header inside the box and was beaten to it. But the Portuguese forward is now down, holding his thigh.

Valencia are allowing Real Madrid to control possession in the opening few minutes of this match. This is the way Marcelino likes to play big games, and so far this season it has worked.

Zidane is under serious pressure at the moment. The midweek Copa del Rey defeat to Leganes prompted reports that Real Madrid are already looking for the Frenchman's replacement.

This is the match of the weekend in La Liga. Valencia, of course, have faint hopes of catching Barcelona at the top of the table, while Real Madrid are in something of a crisis.
