Barcelona will have to wait until the weekend to clinch the Spanish Liga title. Valencia did well to fight back twice, but Atletico Madrid just had too much quality for the visitors to the Metropolitano. Atleti close the gap at the top of the league table back to nine points.

This has been a very entertaining match. Atletico Madrid have had to scrap for all three points, but they have also played some really nice stuff at times. Morata and Lemar have impressed.

Griezmann header! That was a chance for Atletico Madrid to build a two-goal cushion and secure the points, but Griezmann could only head wide after getting up to meet the Morata cross.

Griezmann... just wide! Very nearly a third goal for Atletico Madrid. The French striker's glancing header had Neto beaten, but the ball flashes inches wide of the far post. That would have been even better than his header for the second goal.

Saul was shown a yellow card for the handball that led to the Valencia penalty kick.

Atletico Madrid have controlled this second half well. They have struck a good balance between dominating the ball and hitting out with pace when they move into the attacking third.
