Dembele has probably been Barcelona's most dangerous threat in the match so far, but the French winger has struggled for a final product. Will he find that in the next 40 minutes?

Danger for Villarreal! That could have been a second for Barcelona. Messi's cross was a wicked one, Vidal ran right across the eyeline of the goalkeeper, but Asensjo still managed to make the save.

Will we see a more expansive Villarreal team in this second half? It was strange to see them so conservative and compact in the first half. Being behind, will they change their approach?

HALF TIME: Barcelona 1-0 Villarreal. That's the half and Pique's goal is the difference between the two teams. Villarreal have struck the post, but other than that Barca have been untroubled.

Vidal has been an important figure for Barcelona in recent weeks. The Chilean has stepped up in the light of injuries to key players. He seems to play well with Messi, a bit like Paulinho.

Fornals is one of the brightest young players in the Spanish game. There's speculation that he could move to Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window, but he has been quiet.

Villarreal have a lot of quality, particularly in the centre of the pitch, but they have been so conservative this evening that they haven't been able to show that. This has to change.

Barcelona have taken control of this game since the opening goal. Villarreal need a new game plan for the second half. They haven't been able to create much at all in the final third.

Pedraza got down the left wing, cut back and got the cross into the Barcelona penalty area. Pique was on hand to make the clearing header. He's getting on the end of everything.

Asensjo saves from Messi! That could have been a second goal for Barcelona. Alba got in behind the Villarreal defence, cut it back for Messi, whose close range effort is saved.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 (35 mins - Gerard Pique) Villarreal 0. There's the opener! Barcelona played a short corner, with Dembele playing the ball into the box. Pique got the run on his marker and powered a header into the back of the net. Barca have their noses ahead in this first half. It's probably what they deserve.

Dembele has seven goals for the season and five of them have been crucial in claiming points for Barcelona. He's still very raw, but nobody can deny the potential of the Frenchman.

Barcelona have undoubtedly been on top for the majority of the match, but Villarreal will be pretty pleased with how they have played in the opening 30 minutes or so. Comfortable.

Chance for Dembele! Fantastic play from Barcelona. Messi crosses for Dembele, whose first touch is good. He twists and turns and creates the space, but his shot, which as on target, is blocked.

After saying earlier in the match that Villarreal would play their natural game, they have actually been more conservative and compact than they normally would be. It's working.
