After saying earlier in the match that Villarreal would play their natural game, they have actually been more conservative and compact than they normally would be. It's working.

That was unselfish play from Dembele, but he might have been better taking it on himself. He beat two mean and passed inside to Messi. He could have taken the shot himself!
28'
The majority of Barcelona's play is coming down the right side. Dembele is having a real influence on this game. He doesn't always make the right decision, but he never disappears.

Messi freekick! The set piece was in a perfect position for the Argentinean, but he didn't get the power or direction on the shot to beat Asensjo and the goalkeeper can gather with ease.

The centre back pairing between Lenglet and Pique needs a lot of work. They don't look comfortable alongside each other back there. Barcelona are missing Umtiti at centre back.

Barcelona are probing away on the edge of the opposition penalty area. Villarreal are doing a good job of plugging the gaps at the back, though. They are well organised.

Dembele looks lively this evening. The French winger is seeing plenty of the ball, both driving down the flank and also cutting inside to link up with the likes of Messi and Rakitic.

Barcelona have had the better of the opening 20 minutes, but it's Villarreal who have so far come closest to opening the scoring. Messi has been pretty quiet up until this point.

Now Lenglet enters the book. The Barcelona centre back hasn't started this match very well.

Not far wide! Dembele decides to pass the ball inside this time rather than have a go at his marker, it falls to Rakitic about 20 yards out, but his low drive flashes wide of the near post.
17'
Some teams come to Camp Nou and sit deep in the hope that they are able to absorb Barcelona pressure and hit out on the counter attack. Villarreal aren't one of those teams.
16'
Barcelona got the job done away to PSV in the Champions League during the week, but they allowed the Dutch side so many opportunities. They were so slack at the back.
15'
Well, that was a warning for Barcelona. Lenglet reacted so slowly to the bouncing ball, and the argument could also be made that Ter Stegen was slow off his line. Not great.

Off the post! The woodwork comes to Barcelona's rescue! Gerard made the most of some uncertainty in the Barca defence, putting his body in between the defenders and the ball. His powerful strike smashes off the base of the post!

Barcelona wore these shirts before kick off.

That was catching practice for Asensjo. Dembele played a nice one-two with Semedo and crossed into the penalty area, but the Argentinean goalkeeper caught under no pressure.

Messi gets the shot away! The Barcelona number 10 aims an effort towards the Villarreal goal, but it was a relatively straightforward save for Asensjo, who pushed it away.
