You get the feeling that Bale has the pace and directness to get in behind the Getafe defence, but the Welsh winger is certainly playing within himself at the moment. You want more from him.

Across the face! Brahim wriggled free from the Getafe defence to create the space for the shot, but the former Manchester City midfielder flashes a shot across the face of goal and wide of the far post.

Of course, while Getafe need the points in their pursuit of a Champions League place, Real Madrid need the points to catch Atletico Madrid in second place. There is an incentive for them as well.

Header over! More urgency from Getafe sees a cross slung into the Real Madrid box from the left wing. Cabrera gets above Reguilon in the middle, but he puts his header over the crossbar! Might have done better.

Will we see the two teams take more chances in this second half? A point for Getafe would draw them level with Sevilla in fourth place, but a win would keep them ahead in the race for the Champions League.

HALF TIME: Getafe 0-0 Real Madrid. It's been a strange first half at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Getafe have more than held their own, but it still feels like both teams are feeling each other out. Cautious.

The match has fallen into something of a rut in the last 10 minutes or so. Real Madrid are controlling possession, but there's no real urgency to their play. All a bit timid from them so far.

Opportunity for Benzema! Bale gets running at Damian, with the Welshman playing the cross into the middle. However, the pass was slightly behind Benzema and Soria makes the save from the Frenchman.

Damian becomes the first Getafe player to be shown a yellow card.

Getafe will be quite pleased with how they have played in this first half, but they will need to show more attacking intent in the second half if they are to claim the win they need.

Great block! Benzema looked to have been slotted through on goal, but Miquel threw himself in front of the strike to prevent the Frenchman's powerful strike from reaching Soria.

Getafe are certainly working harder than Real Madrid, but there has been a lack of quality from the Champions League-chasing side in the attacking third of the pitch so far.

Navas perhaps got a bit lucky with that save. He parried the ball out into the centre of his own penalty box. Fortunately for Real Madrid, there was nobody in a blue shirt waiting.
