Stoke putting a lot of pressure on the Swansea midfield and defence. Dyer finds Michu but he gets the ball caught under his feet and the hosts clear.

Adam is seeing a lot of the ball now. His through ball is intercepted by Chico, who finds Dyer. Wilson goes through the diminutive winger. Free-kick. Poor delivery.

Vorm comes for a high ball and is nowhere near it. Ki has to mop up as the ball is clipped into the box following that flap – lucky there Swansea.

Dyer fouls Huth as they challenge for a high ball.

Adam works a yard and clips a ball to the far post but Rangel clears with Crouch on the prowl. Corner. Whelan swings it in but is it easily cleared.

Stoke get their foot on the ball for the first time in the game. But the visitors put pressure on N'Zonzi who overhits a pass to Begovic, who slices clear. Nervous start.

Swansea make a strong start. They’re moving the ball at pace and Graham looks to get in behind but Huth snuffs out the danger.

The referee today is Jonathan Moss and he gives his whistle a toot and we’re off. The Swans get the game underway to the usual din at the Britannia.

While Tony Pulis has had much to say about summer signing Michael Owen, who again starts on the bench: "Michael has been fantastic since he walked through the door here, and he looked fit and sharp when he came on at Chelsea. It's a long, tough season though, and there is no way we will be rushing him into things quickly which could put him at risk of picking up an injury. We will bide our time with him and ease him into things, as we have done."

Visiting boss Michael Laudrup has been complimentary of his hosts in the build up to the game: "There is no right or wrong style of play in football. We all have our opinions. If you look at Stoke, they have really grown as a club in the Premier League. Usually, of the three teams that go up you find one, maybe two, of those clubs go straight down. The other may go down the following season. But they have become an established Premier League team.”

The Swans made a swashbuckling start to the season but two straight defeats without scoring has seen them drop to 11th in the table, while their hosts – who were unbeaten in the league until last weekend’s defeat against Chelsea – are a further two places down in 13th having drawn their four prior games.

The rhetoric would suggest this match pits opposing philosophies against one another, but a quick consultation with the statistics and those stereotypes don’t seem so concrete. Stoke have conceded 60% of their goals from set plays – the highest in the league; while Swansea have made the lowest percentage of their passes in the final third: 23%.

Ashley Williams and Pablo Hernandez shake off injuries; while Chico Flores and Nathan Dyer return from suspension to feature in the starting eleven.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis has a fully-fit squad to select from with midfielder Charlie Adam having recovered from the illness that forced him off last weekend in the 1-0 defeat at Chelsea. Andy Wilkinson serves the second match of a three-game suspension. Michael Owen is again on the bench.
