Lliverpool, having been put under serious pressure from the visiting side so far, are attempting to slow it down and control the pace of the game.

Valencia's set-piece cannons straight back off the wall. Poor.
17'
Claims for handball from the Liverpool fans and players as Lallana blasts a shot towards goal that cannons off Winston Reid. It does appear to hit the player's arm, but there is simply nothing he could have done about it.

Henderson picks out Moreno out wide on the left. The full-back takes one touch to get the ball out of his feet before looking to find Sterling, who has pulled away from Collins. Sterling is unmarked in the box but the ball is overhit.
15'
Liverpool concede possession a number of times in quick succession, much to the annoyance of the raucous Anfield crowd. A sloppy couple of minutes from the home side.

Smart goalkeeping from Mignolet, who has to race out and steal the ball away from the onrushing Valencia, who had been sent through by Song's wonderfully-weighted pass.

This has been a very open game so far with both sides showing willing when going forward. A very entertaining game at Anfield in store, for sure...

Carroll and Can are really at each other in these opening stages. Another West Ham set-piece sees the pair battle it out, and there are some afters, too.

The West Ham set-piece is defended well by Liverpool, who look to counter-attack with pace. Sterling leads the charge once again, and he finds Lallana, who is supporting well. The midfielder has options left and right but opts to shoot from distance and blazes his effort over the bar.

Can is penalised for a foul on Valencia, who gets the better of the defender before being pulled back. A very, very shakey opening few minutes from the Turk.
7'
A move of real promise for Liverpool. The pace of Sterling causing the visiting defence all sorts of problems. The ball finall falls to Markovic on the edge of the penalty area. His first shot is blocked, and his second is a complete mis-kick.
6'
That's a big first few minutes for Carroll, who already has the winning of Can. It wouldn't be too surprising to see a few balls lofted towards Can in these opening stages.
5'
Huge boos from the travelling West Ham fans as the referee stops play just as the visitors are on the attack. Can is down after a heavy clash with Carroll, and his bleeding from the mouth. Nothing intentional from Carroll, but the striker did appear to catch Can with a stray elbow.
4'
Can almost puts his side in danger with a woeful header back towards Mignolet. Fortunately for the makeshift defender, his header is a poor one and doesn't reach Mignolet, who is under pressure from Valencia. Skrtel clears.
3'
A bit of a change of tactics from Big Sam, who has pushed Downing out wide on the left. The former Liverpool man had been playing at the tip of the diamond in the West Ham midfield, but Nolan is preferred in that position today.
