Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Swansea. The big team news is the inclusion of Diego Costa from the start, despite those fears about his hamstring injury.

Shelvey's through ball is well measured for Gomis's run, but instead of shooting first time, he cuts onto his left and scuffs an effort against a defender and the danger passes.

This piece is worth reading at half time. On the pitch, it's an awkward match with few clear chances so far.

Shelvey manages to find room down the right of the box for a cross, but his low effort is claimed by Courtois.

Taylor trips Willian on the halfway line, but it's not close to a booking, and the match restarts without a huge fist-fight or argument.

Hazard almost slips in Costa with a throughball into the box, but Fabianksi claims.

Swansea have a free kick on the left wing, Gomis meets it at the near post, and he glances it just wide of the far post.

Ooh, Victor Moses still plays for Chelsea. Dearie me.

Oscar gets a clump in the face from Ki. It didn't look deliberate, but he's hurt nonetheless. He's wincing a little now, but will be back on the pitch soon.

Costa barges over Fabianksi in a spectacular and expected display of gamesmanship.

Swansea are enjoying some possession, but Costa closes them down. Same as you remember Chelsea from last year, really.

There were stories that Courtois injured himself in training, but he's OK to start the match.

Willian wins an early corner, and it's headed away.

I'm predicting Chelsea to win 2-0, and the Premier League.

Garry Monk: "We got to a good level last year with the expectations of how I want them to work but now it's about improving tactically, physically, technically - and that's what we've been working on. We have sat down and shown them how much they have improved and how much they can improve. We have showcased situations on the pitch when it's been negative and they've not dealt with it properly, then - after work with them to put it right - how they dealt with it properly and how it becomes second nature. That's how we are trying to improve, how to attack stronger and quicker, keep the ball better, how we defend certain areas of the pitch."

Jose Mourinho: "You can have a good season and somebody was better than you. And I don't consider that failure. I don't consider that a bad season. If somebody was better than you, a little bit better, a couple of points more than you, one goal more than you in a knockout phase, then I don't think it's a failure. I just think credit to the others. Let's try to be a good team and let's try to be here in March, April speaking to you about the possibility of winning something."

As for Swansea City, they field star arrival Andre Ayew following his free transfer arrival from Marseille. The Ghana international plays in support of lone striker Bafe Gomis.

Looking at that Chelsea starting XI, you wouldn't know we're starting a new season, would you? The only hints of summer transfer action are Asmir Begovic and Radamel Falcao taking their places on the bench. Oh, and Victor Moses returning from his loan at Stoke.
