The final whistle goes and Anfield stands as one to salute a brilliant team display by Liverpool. They have been the better side throughout and richly deserve their three-goal margin of victory. It doesn’t remove the hurt of Sunday’s cup final loss, but Jurgen Klopp’s side do at least have a league double over City to cheer them this evening. City were absolutely dreadful and showed none of the urgency and intent that you’d expect from a team who are mathematically very much still in the title race. On Merseyside it finishes Liverpool 3, City 0.

We're into three minutes of added time at Anfield.

The ball falls nicely for Allen a long way out and he hits a dipping shot that almost dropped enough to sneak under the crossbar. Joe Hart tried to make it look comfortable, but he was beaten all ends up.

City win a corner but it is comfortably cleared by Lovren. The only positive tonight for City will be the results of the teams above them in the league (both Arsenal and Tottenham have been beaten).

The excellent Milner makes way to a standing ovation from the Liverpool fans. On comes young Ibe.

The state of that City wall was the perfect illustration of their display. Some players were jumping, some weren't, there were holes all over the place and Fernando hardly looked willing to put his body on the line as the closest man to Henderson's shot.

Henderson curls a free-kick fractionally wide. Joe Hart was getting nowhere near that.

Benteke wrestles with Kompany and wins a foul. That's the second time that the striker has got the better of his compatriot in an arm-wrestle, which won't please the City captain.

Liverpool are toying with City now, safe in the knowledge that a big win is already in the bag.

Lallana is absolutely bossing this game and again picks up a loose ball in a pocket of space between midfield and defence. The movement isn't as lively around him as it was earlier in the game, so nothing comes of it.

The last time a team defeated Man City twice by a three-goal margin in a single PL season was Chelsea in 2002/03.

Kompany hoofs it forward, but that's not going to trouble the Liverpool defence and sums up City's lack of imagination.

Bony makes a clumsy challenge and gives away a foul midway inside the Liverpool half. There's very little sign of life in Manchester City - they know they've been comprehensively outplayed this evening.

Milner has run himself into the ground tonight and presses the ball high up the pitch. He gives away a foul eventually, but it's that sort of pressure and intensity that has inspired this Liverpool win (assuming there isn't a remarkable late turnaround).

Aguero almost gets in behind the Liverpool defence for the first time in the game, but he's eased off the ball by Kolo Toure, who showed remarkable skill and composure not to give away a penalty.
