The final whistle goes and the sparse home crowd greet the end of the game with a mix of disgruntled moans and silence. All of the noise is coming from the away end, where the Sunderland fans are celebrating a point that takes them closer to safety.

Johnson bursts forward and gets a shot away, but it's blocked and Mignolet breathes a sigh of relief in the Liverpool goal.

The Liverpool fans who remain probably feel they should have joined in with the walk-out having seen their team capitulate in the last ten minutes. The hosts are throwing everything at Sunderland to try and rescue a win, but time is rapidly running out.

There will be four minutes of added time - enough for a winner?

That was horrible defending from Liverpool, failing to clear on a number of occasions before the key pass was threaded in to Defoe. Even then there were five defenders around the striker and he had his back to goal, but he managed to score without even needing to pick out the corner... throwing more shade in Mignolet's direction.

GOOOAAALLL!!! Jermain Defoe equalises for Sunderland, twisting in the box and thudding a shot past Mignolet. 2-2!

Sunderland are enjoying their best spell of pressure in the game, but it's brought to an end by a foul throw.

Henderson is replaced by Lucas for the final five minutes.

Firmino shoots wide of the far post when clean through, but the flag was up in any case.

Do we have a game on here? There's likely to be around ten minutes for Sunderland to snatch a point.

GOOOAAALLL!!! Adam Johnson pulls one back for Sunderland, squeezing a free-kick around the wall and into the bottom corner. Mignolet really should have stopped that - maybe he's protesting about ticket prices as well. 2-1.

Lallana lets fly from distance but his shot flies narrowly wide. The players aren't packing it in for the day, even if many of the supporters are.

Some of the departing fans are dawdling a tad, casting a bit of an eye on the action before they leave.

And now, as promised, a large number of the supporters stage a walk-out. There are an impressive number of fans actually leaving and you have to feel that they have a point.

The noise cranks up a notch at Anfield as the fans begin a protest about raised ticket prices for next season.

Big Sam's chewing gum is taking an extra special pounding now, with the Sunderland manager stewing over the defensive error that led to Liverpool's second goal. He leans back in his seat, seemingly resigned to dropping more points.
