Mata slides a gem of a pass through to Rashford, who stays on his feet when challenged in the box and can't quite work the angle for a shot. That was good to see from the youngster. He would have had a penalty there if he'd fallen over Hutton's tackle (so to speak).

Villa have switched to a 4-4-1-1 to try and get some support up to Ayew on the break. The forward was completely isolated in the first half.

United get the game back underway.

The half-time whistle goes and United are a goal to the good thanks to Marcus Rashford.

Villa break and Ayew finds himself in space for the first time. The forward cuts inside and shoots, but his effort is deflected and United hack it away.

The only positive for Villa is that it's just 1-0. They should be much further behind.

You can't help but feel for Villa fans. It's not that they lack quality - we knew that at the start of the season. It's the lack of commitment and organisation that is so demoralising.

Rashford is pinned in the corner and shows his inexperience by failing to turn out of trouble and then appealing to the linesman for a foul. There was nothing in the incident, just what you see countless times every weekend. He'll learn to deal with such close attention though, the boy is clearly a talent.

A long-range free-kick effort from Depay takes a looping deflection to make it easy for Guzan.

The intensity of the game has not changed since the goal. United are still in cruise control and look like they could open up Villa at will.

Rooney has a pop from distance, but this time Guzan makes a comfortable save. If United even keep their foot halfway to the floor today then this could get embarrassing.
