Evening all, and here we are again for what is a rather large game. If Chelsea win, it'll look even blacker for the chasing pack; if Liverpool lose, well, dearie me. On the other hand, if Chelsea lose and Spurs and don't, well, here we go; if Liverpool win, it might just save their season.

Liverpool have made another decent start, and also made a good a chance as they could possibly wish for. And they almost rue it harder when Costa backheels into the path of Moses who breaks into the box. The ball runs away from him slightly, and Milner, rather than put his foot through it, attempts to nick it away and retain possession, failing to make contact altogether; Moses then swivels to knuck a shot against the outside of the near post.

Oh me! Oh my! Liverpool find their away down the left at speed, the move the ball across the pitch for Lallana, who backheels delightfully into the path of Clyne, bursting by on his inside. In slides Azpilicueta, and the ball breaks free to Firmino, who has time for a cuppa, a biscuit, a skin of War and Peace and a snout before controlling and picking his spot. But he eschews all of that, leaning back and slicing somewhere towards Kirkby.

But then Firmino rustles away from Luiz and squares inside the box, only for Matic to intercept superbly. But Liverpool maintain the pressure, going down the right, only for Matic to deal once more.

I'm surprised Liverpool haven't changed things - "play better" doesn't seem like enough to change things to me.

Gerrard is desperate for make Howard Webb say the decision was a disgrace, but he won't - from Clattenburg's angle, it looked a foul.

Chelsea haven't played well and still Liverpool have threatened them hardly at all. I'd expect to see Mane after the break, probably for Can; I'd also expect Chelsea to play better.

For all Liverpool's early possession, they didn't create any chances - and nor have Chelsea since then, they just found that little bit of cunning and class from a set-piece. What was great about it was that Luiz knew he only needed to get it on target; I fancy Mignolet might be in line for a full and frank one in the dressing room.

Courtois is booked for timewasting, which quite some effort in the first half of a game.

Liverpool badly need bodies in the box. it's not pretty, but just as the long ball is one way of beating the press, so long balls into the corners is one way of getting round a 3-4-2-1. From there, Liverpool can cross, but it's pointless if there's no one there to convert.

Burnley are drawing 0-0 with Leicester, but in the process have signed Robbie Brady from Norwich.

Firmino slides a smart ball out wide for Clyne, cleverly picking the line which misses out the various defenders in between the two of them. The cross then arrives, low and hard, but Luiz, who still looks discomfitted, slams behind for a corner which comes to nothing.

Clyne takes possession deep inside the Chelsea half and dips inside to predictably little avail. Liverpool are in dire need of a fresh midfielder and a proper centre-forward. Good luck in the summer, Jurgen old boy.
