Bolasie finds his options limited 25 yards from goal so goes for goal but pulls the shot wide.

Cedric again comes forward down Southampton's right and puts in a cross which Jagielka is able to clear.

Everton have their first clear-cut chance as Coleman makes inroads down the right and then pulls it back for Gueye by the penalty spot but the Senegalese midfielder skies the shot.

Hojbjerg dribbles past a couple of Everton men and then finds Austin 16 yards out but his weak shot is easily saved.

Everton have been very sluggish so far, with Southampton the team doing all the pressing. Sims has been getting stuck in too and wins his team a free-kick in their own half after dispossessing Baines.

Hojbjerg goals for goal from distance again and shoots over again.

Redmond, down the left, dinks a cross in for Sims who's in space eight yards out but doesn't put his header near enough to the corner and Stekelenburg saves. It should be 2-0.

Stekelenburg punches a Ward-Prowse free-kick clear and it drops nicely for Hojbjerg who then smashes it over the bar.

Bertrand, on the overlap, does Coleman for pace but is outmuscled by Jagielka upon entering the box.

Lennon looks to whip in a cross from the right but puts it too close to Forster, who comes and claims.

Fonte lunges in to try and intercept a pass inside Everton's half but misses the ball and catches Lukaku instead. No booking though.

After that breathless start Southampton get a corner down their right but can't make anything from it.

GOAL! 1-0. What a start for Saints! Cedric's cross isn't cleared and Sims squares for Austin to tap in from close range!

Koeman is deep in conversation on the touchline with Dave Watson, the Southampton and England goalkeeping coach who also joined the Saints in 2014.

Craig Pawson is today's referee.
