GOAL! Manchester United 1-0 Everton. Valencia scores - Young dinks the ball back for Matic, ready for a cross. It looks as if Matic has mishit his cross, but he's actually pulled it across for Valencia, and he lashes a fierce volley into the top corner.

Five minutes until kick off. Everton are without a win in five games, and United could go top with victory of their own.

Everton continue to pick Rooney. He was poor against Atalanta, as were the rest of his side, and he has been under a lot of self-inflicted attention over the last fortnight. In the distant past, he used this kind of thing as motivation. More recently, it simply hasn't made a difference to him either way.
15:35
United are without Paul Pogba - and there's a story going around that he could be out for three months - and have chosen the in-form Marouane Fellaini to start in midfield alongside Nemanja Matic. On the bench, then, is Ander Herrera, with Michael Carrick. Carrick is the player that Xavi Hernandez could have been.
15:30
Ronald Koeman has talked of United's new - and his last - striker, Romelu Lukaku: "I don't say impossible [to replace Lukaku] but that was close to impossible to get someone in who will score that amount of goals that Romelu scored for Everton. With Romelu we had enough fights about how he needs to press, how he needs to run, how he needs to move but in the box, with opportunities to score, he is one of the best."

Jose Mourinho has spoken of his ease in deciding to let Wayne Rooney leave United: "I think it is easy. That way it is easy because you don't have to think a lot. You just have to respect the player's desire, and what they decide. And when they're a legend they deserve that freedom of choice."
