Good afternoon and welcome to Eurosport's live minute-by-minute text commentary of Newcastle and Tottenham. While the majority of other Premier League clubs have been splashing the cash, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has had to settle with what he has, while Rafa Benitez has become increasingly frustrated as the Toon Army missed out on a number of key targets. Though new faces may be scarce at St James', there should still be plenty to keep us entertained over the next couple of hours.

FULL-TIME
Spurs are off the mark in the Premier League with this comfortable 2-0 win over 10-man Newcastle. Goals from Dele Alli and Ben Davies separates the sides.
The talking point? Jonjo Shelvey's senseless red card - at 0-0 - which has cost newly-promoted Newcastle dearly.

TOTTENHAM SUB
Harry Winks is on for the last couple of minutes. He replaces Dembele.
88'
So, a relatively comfortable afternoon for Tottenham, but who knows how it would have unfolded had Jonjo Shelvey not been sent off.
86'
Spurs fail to clear from the corner and the ball falls kindly to Clark inside the penalty area, but he strikes his shot straight at Lloris who is able to hold on and smother the ball.

They're two goals down and a man short, but Newcastle are determined to find a goal. Rafa has thrown men forward, but the concern is that they will be caught on the counter-attack.

CLOSE!
The unmarked Hayden nods a ball to the back post, but Atsu can only find the side netting. It was a chance for Newcastle.

Atsu - Newcastle's only sign of encouragement in this second-half - squeezes a cross into the Spurs penalty area, but the defence deals with it comfortably.
79'
A rare foray forward from Newcastle as the lively Atsu skips past three or four challenges before driving a low shot from 20 yards. It's straight at Lloris though.
78'
CLOSE!
Dier lashes a right-footed effort at goal from 25 yards. The shot takes a deflection and goes narrowly over the bar. Spurs have a corner to follow.

Jonjo Shelvey will be a popular man in the dressing room... NOT. Spurs stepped up in gear the moment he was sent off.

GOAL! Newcastle 0-2 Tottenham.
A lovely team move involving Alli and Kane is almost finished by Eriksen, but Davies nips in to steal the goal from the Dane! Spurs are cruising to victory.
