Gundogan spots the run of Aguero behind the City defence, but he can't execute the pass. The Argentine looks frustrated with the lack of service he has been provided with.

Brighton are sitting deep. Every man is behind the ball. They're happy to frustrate City and wait for an opportunity to hit them on the break. The longer this stays goalless, the more anxious City will become.

Sterling gets in behind the Brighton defence but his cross is too close to Ryan, who punches it clear. City keep the attack alive, with Gundogan's shot from the edge of the box charged down.

GOAL UPDATE! Sadio Mane has put Liverpool ahead against Wolves. This means that, as it stands, The Reds are top of the table. City have to respond now.

Zinchenko whips a cross behind the Brighton defence - but there's no City player prepared to gamble at the far post and it rolls out harmlessly for a Brighton goal-kick.

SHOT! The ball is worked to Mahrez who cuts in and shoots left-footed but it takes a deflection and ends up in the arms of Ryan.

This is better from City. The ball is rapidly switched to Zinchenko whose cross is blocked behind for a corner. The resulting set-piece, delivered by Gundogan, is headed clear with ease, however.

Sterling lifts a cross into the box from the right but it's an inch too high for Aguero who just can't climb high enough. Bruno takes it down and clears.

Brighton are enjoying themselves in the opening stages of this contest and some of their football has been really neat and tidy.

CLOSE! Here come Brighton on the counter. The ball is switched to Jahanbaksh on the left. He cuts inside and fires a decent effort just wide of Ederson's post. Pep is down on his knees - he can barely watch!

Bernardo has been lively in the opening stages and the Brighton players are having to double up to contain the flying flanker.

OFFSIDE! Brighton force their first corner of the game. City can only partially clear, Knockaert swings it back in and Murray heads wide. Wouldn't have counted anyway, as the Brighton forward was in an offside position.

PENALTY APPEAL! Bernardo wins the ball back for City in midfield and dances his way into the penalty area where he goes down. The referee Michael Oliver tells him to get to his feet.

Sterling is robbed by Bissouma but it's not long until City have possession back, as they continue to probe.

Bruno, making his final appearance in a Brighton shirt, makes a lovely tackle on Mahrez on the flank, prompting the home supporters to wildly sing his name.

City have been scoring later and later in recent games. It took them until the 70th minute to break the deadlock against Leicester and it wasn't until the 63rd-minute they breached Burnley's defence. An early goal would settle the nerves today.
