No doubt Solskjaer will get stick for United's performance here, but there's not a manager in the world who doesn't get gubbed with these players.

Firmino flicks a ball to Oxlade-Chamberlain, who snaps a glorious pass, first-time, that slices the United defence apart! Wijnaldum opens his body to place a finish inside the far corner, but the flag goes up for offside.

United try to play their way out of defence and botch a succession of passes, Henderson robbing Fred and darting a ball into the middle, which Williams does well to clear.

Mane gives it away and Fred burrows towards the box, trying a stepover as he's unceremoniously mugged by Wijnaldum.

United have clamed down after that little headrush, but the bad news for them is that Liverpool haven't really got going yet.

This game reminds me a little of the games at Old Trafford against Liverpool and Manchester City in 2013, when David Moyes was United manager and you couldn't see any way they could possibly get a result. With a full complement of players, this squad have the ability to hurt Liverpool, but missing the players they are, no chance.

It turns out De Gea was booked for protesting the disallowed goal, before it was disallowed.

Bit of possession for United, who try to take the sting out of things.

NO GOAL! United players go mad and VAR adjudges Van Dijk made no attempt to play the ball! But the way this is going, there's second isn't far off.

GOAL! Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United (Firmino) De Gea goes to collect a high ball that should be easy for him, except Van Dijk challenges- that looked a foul to me - but it's close and he spills it! Naturally Lindelof panics and lashes his clearance to Firmino, and he bends a luscious finish into the near post! United are in all sorts!

Firmino knocks a ball into the box and it hits Fred then bounces into Mane's stride! But for some reason he takes time and a touch, allowing Shaw to intercede!

United have conceded eight goals from corners this season, more than any team in the league. This is exactly what I meant about Maguire.
22'
United can't get anything going now, they'll be kicking themselves that they gave a free goal to a team with so many ways to hurt them,

We've hardly seen Salah and Firmino yet, a circumstance that seems unlikely to persist for the remaining 70 minutes.

Pereira is down and will get treatment.

De Gea collects a cross and whacks a hopeful ball towards Martial; it's easily cut out, and will now come straight back.
19'
It's one-way traffic now.

Liverpool win a free-kick on the right, 30 yards out, roughly level with the edge of the box. Alexander-Arnold bends it in and again United don't get tight enough to Van Dijk, who can't quite reach the ball. It hits a United leg and goes behind, for a corner which comes to nothing.

That's 14 set-piece goals for Liverpool this season, the most of any team in the league, and United will be fearing a hiding.

GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Manchester United (Van Dijk) It's been a good start for United ... until it hasn't. The corner is a good one, into the heart of the box, and somehow Williams finds himself tracking Van Dijk in a total mismatch, while Maguire, whose man he probably was, is too far away to prevent him punishing a header past De Gea. Liverpool are good at set-pieces United are not.
