I’m going to be straight with you, this isn’t exactly a thriller so far. But there’s still plenty of time for it to liven up.

A very firm pass puts Sanchez in a spot of bother at the back for Brighton and Richarlison swoops as the keeper’s first touch is heavy. The two come together and the ball flies away to safety. Richarlison appeals optimistically for a penalty, but it looks like the goalkeeper just about got to the ball in time.

It’s James who takes it, but he can’t keep the shot down and it sails harmlessly over.
14'
Coleman is bodychecked and the visitors have a free-kick in a dangerous position. James and Gylfi are stood over it (not a bad couple of options!).
13'
A loose clearance is picked up by Godfrey, who takes advantage of his more advanced role to unleash a shot that flies over the bar. That’s more like it from Everton!
12'
Richarlison drops deeper to try and get Everton ticking and picks up a foul in the centre circle. The Toffees take it quickly and work the ball to Digne out on the left, but his deep cross is well defended and cleared to safety.

Brighton continue to look the better of the two sides, putting Everton under plenty of pressure on the ball in their own half. There’s been little to show for it as of yet though.
6'
Space is at a premium in the opening stages, with Everton not taking any risks as they settle into this slightly unusual shape. It’s a back-three essentially, with an extra defender pushed into midfield too.
3'
Brighton have started brightly and a corner has Olsen in a bit of trouble as he stretches to palm it away. He collided slightly with Mina in doing so and receives some treatment.

Everton, wearing their toothpaste-green away strip, get the game underway. Brighton are in blue and white.
Two minutes of silence are held in memory of HRH Prince Philip: 1921-2021.
That’s pretty impressive attitude from the two of them, and Everton fans will be hoping that Richarlison has sharpened up is act as the Toffees look to end a three-game winless streak in the league tonight. DCL is, of course, ruled out through a late injury.
After the game I said Dominic and Richarlison could do better in these situations and they know this, absolutely. I don’t think they were happy after the game, they were really disappointed after the opportunities they had. You have to accept the critics sometimes, no problem. They understood the problem and have worked on this in the week.
There were some interesting comments from Ancelotti ahead of this game about the finishing of his forwards, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The strikers missed some big chances against Crystal Palace last time out, and the manager has revealed that the pair acknowledged that they deserved criticism for the performance and have responded by working even harder on their finishing in training.

But the stat-omens aren’t all good for the Seagulls. They also have a winless MNF record, drawing six and losing three of their nine total Premier League fixtures on a Monday evening. Read into that what you will.

Brighton haven’t lost a home game against Everton since their return to the top tier of English football, winning two and drawing one of their meetings.
Tonight’s hosts Brighton are still not completely safe yet, but Graham Potter’s side have two games in hand over 18th-placed Fulham, and have a real opportunity this evening to pull up towards midtable. Wins over Southampton and Newcastle in their last three matches have given Brighton the buffer they were looking for in the relegation scrap, and another victory tonight would make them all-but safe.
Everton have barely been mentioned in the top four conversation for a couple of months now, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side have two games in hand over all the clubs above them, giving them a great opportunity to pull back into European qualification contention. A win tonight would send the Toffees above Spurs into seventh in the league, five points behind West Ham in fourth place and still with a game in hand. If I were a meme guy this would be where I’d drop in “so you’re telling me there’s a chance”.
Brighton are unchanged, which means the attack-minded side that started against United remains. Burns and Webster are fit again and return to the bench.
