Manchester City v Newcastle result - City ease to win over Magpies to take charge of title race

The defender has scored more goals than any other Premier League centre-back this season, but he's got Dubravka to thank for this one

If Liverpool are to win the title, they need City to lose at least one game. That Laporte goal has now moved City above the Reds, not only by three points, but on goal difference too

De Bruyne sends a corner deep to Gundogan on the edge of the area and Dubravka fumbles the shot. Dias' follow up deflects back off the goalkeeper to Laporte who bundles into an empty net. 2-0!

Newcastle have offered very little in way of a response since going behind. City have certainly dominated the last ten or so minutes and look hungry for a second before the break. Don't forget, goal difference could be key in the title race

Raheem Sterling goes down after a tangle with Jamaal Lascelles in the area. He wants a penalty, but those appeals are quickly and rightly waved away by the referee, while the rest of the City team show little interest in the incident

It another glorious opening. Kevin De Bruyne curls in a delightful cross for Joao Cancelo at the back post. He has to hit the target, but can't, again volleying way wide

If that was a good chance for Wood, this was even better for City. Aymeric Laporte is picked out by a corner from the left, but he blazes his volley way over the bar

Chris Wood should do better. Allan Saint-Maximin whips a cross in from the right and Wood is unmarked near the six yard line. He sends a tame header straight at Ederson

Oleksandr Zinchenko goes on the overlap on the left hand side of the area and slides the ball into the six yard box, but Martin Dubravka is able to pounce on it

No chances as of yet, and Newcastle will be reasonably pleased with their start. They've passed the ball around comfortably and will be hoping to settle in quickly
