KELLEHER PALMS AWAY
An awkward save from the Liverpool goalkeeper, but he denies De Bruyne, who tries his luck with a fierce, swerving effort from 25 yards this is beaten away

DE BRUYNE CLIPS WIDE
Another flowing City move down their left. Alavarez plays in De Bruyne, who either tries a shot or a cross; whichever it is, the ball floats wide of the far post

MANCHESTER CITY ON TOP
City have dominated these opening exchanges - so much so that they have enjoyed 74% of the ball so far

ALVAREZ SHOT SAVED
Some bright, silky passing by Manchester City early on, and they work a chance for Julian Alvarez on the left hand side of the area. He sends a low shot towards goal, but Caoimhin Kelleher is equal to it

THE HEAD-TO-HEAD RECORD
Trent Alexander-Arnold's late goal meant these two teams drew 1-1 at the Etihad earlier in the season.
Anfield has not been a happy hunting ground for Manchester City though; they have won here just once since 2003 (losing 14 times and drawing seven). That victory? 4-1 in February 2021, with Ilkay Gundogan netting twice, alongside goals for Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden.

GUARDIOLA RECALLS HIS BIG GUNS
The visitors meanwhile beat Copenhagen 3-1 in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, and did so without a number of star names.
The majority of them return today though, as Kyle Walker, Nathan Ake, John Stones, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva replace Rico Lewis, Ruben Dias, Oscar Bobb, Josko Gvardiol, Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic

SALAH ON THE BENCH FOR LIVERPOOL
Liverpool, ravaged by injury, make three changes from the 5-1 win over Sparta Prague in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, as Conor Bradley, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai come in for Ibrahima Konate, Andrew Robertson and Cody Gakpo.
Perhaps the biggest surprise, though, is that Mo Salah, who came off the bench in that game, remains among the substitutes. Jurgen Klopp says "We can bring him, which is super cool, but no, it was not a big decision [to not start him]."
