Newcastle United moved up to sixth place in the Premier League with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Spurs at St James’ Park.

Alexander Isak scored a brace for the home team with a smartly taken finish in each half. The rout was completed with a late header from Fabian Schar from a corner.

The defeat could have been heavier for Spurs, as Newcastle missed opportunities from set pieces and Emil Krafth hit the post ten minutes from time.

In the first half Timo Werner missed a good chance for Spurs before Isak opened the scoring. Newcastle quickly went two ahead when Anthony Gordon beat Micky van de Ven and powered a shot past Guglielmo Vicario.

The two goals from Isak put him on 17 in the Premier League this season, just two behind Erling Haaland in the race for the golden boot.

That's all folks; Newcastle have eviscerated Tottenham here.

It's four now! Gordon whips the corner to the back post where Schar rises to plant his header back across goal and into the net. What a rout this is, and it's another pasting for Spurs at St James' Park.

It's almost four! From the edge of the area Barnes fakes to shoot, and slides a gorgeous pass through to the onrushing Gordon. He takes a touch he doesn't need though, and Van de Ven gets across to block the ball behind for a corner.

We're done here. Spurs are knocking it around, but with no real bite to what they're doing. They'd take the final whistle now I'm sure.

Spurs clear a corner to the edge of the area. Krafth hits a bobbler through everyone, and with Vicario frozen the ball clips the far post and goes out.

Guimaraes puts Livramento in behind Spurs on the right. Livramento's cross to Isak at the back post is just a touch too heavy, otherwise the hat-trick was there for Isak.

Murphy is struggling, and is replaced by Livramento.

A lovely spin near halfway from Maddison is followed by a laser of a pass through to Werner. For a second it looks like he's in, but Krafth slides in to cut the ball out.

He picks up a second ball just outside the area, and it sits up nicely for a volley; unfortunately he gets under it too much, and the ball goes high over the bar.

Newcastle are just defending their area in a block, waiting to break quickly. They're doing some impressive running out there, as all Spurs can do is shift it side to side with no real penetration.

A long passing move from Tottenham ends with Maddison having a shy from 25 yards out, but his shot sails high over the bar.

Tottenham have a chance to break but Kulusevski overhits a long ball out to the left and it runs out of play.

Anderson pirouettes into a shooting position near the six yard box, and forces a good save from Vicario.
