Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid LIVE: Supercopa de Espana updates from extra-time thriller

Real Madrid are through to the final of the Spanish Supercopa after beating Atletico Madrid 5-3 after extra-time in a breathless Madrid derby.

The first semi-final of the Supercopa delivered entertainment in spades in-front of a lively crowd in Riyadh, with the game played at a relentless pace until the two teams tired in the additional half hour.

Set-piece headers from Mario Hermoso and Antony Rudiger were followed by a clever Ferland Mendy flicked finish and a fine solo strike from Antoine Griezmann, which saw the veteran Frenchman become Atleti’s all-time record scored and send the teams in at 2-2 at half-time.

A mistake from Kepa Arrizabalaga led to an own goal from Rudiger that looked to have won it for Atletico in normal time, only for Dani Carvajal to score late on after a move that had seen Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham both brilliantly denied in the box.

And it was Real, who had looked the better team for much of the night, who won it in extra time, with a looping Stefan Savic own goal followed by a dramatic final-second fifth as Brahim Diaz outpaced Jan Oblak, who had come up for a corner, to race onto a hoofed clearance and finish from just inside the Atletico half.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side will now face either Barcelona or Osasuna in Sunday’s final at the same ground in the Saudi Arabian capital.

Atletico pour forward looking for an equaliser and Griezmann goes close, turning on a sixpence and sending a terrific effort marginally wide with Kepa stranded.

A deep cross comes into the Atletico box is aimed towards Joselu, who gets a slight touch onto the foot of the covering defender Savic. The ball loops over Oblak and into the back of the net as Joselu wheels away to celebrate a goal that will certainly not go down with his name next to it.

Still perplexed by the lack of a decision moments ago, Bellingham responds with a clean but crunching challenge and then whips up the crowd. He relishes the big stage.

Bellingham is clipped and falls over the ball and is caught by two defenders down by the byline. The referee waves for play to continue, which enrages Ancelotti in the Real Madrid dugout.

It’s the final substitution for either side as a hobbling Valverde is replaced by Guler.

Azpilicueta is caught marginally offside as Atletico look to catch Real Madrid out from a deep free-kick. He really should have been able to hold his run there, the former Chelsea man.

Can either of these teams snatch a winner in extra time? There are some tired legs out there.

Kroos, who is still being booed at every touch, attempts a delicate chip from range that Oblak reads and keeps out.

Fouls on the goalkeeper have been a talking point in this match, but this one isn’t debatable, as Rudiger times his jump wrong and catches Oblak in the air. The defender apologises immediately and it’s just a free-kick.

Bellingham picks the ball up on the left and curls a tempting cross deep towards Diaz, who is the lone white shirt arriving on the far side of the box. It’s a great cross, but Hermoso follows it all the way and gets a crucial touch.

Correa makes a clever turn inside the box on a rare foray forward from Atletico, but the ball runs away from him slightly and through to Kepa.

The pace has dropped slightly in extra-time, but it’s still Real Madrid who are controlling the game. In fact, Atletico seem even more defensive since the restart, but get a bit lucky as the ball bounces around their own box and away to safety with a host of white shirts lurking.
