SCOTT PLAYS IN BEHIND FOR SYKES!
And he takes a really good first touch, in front of the chasing Lewis, then goes down! That looks a lot like a penalty to me - Lewis doesn't get near the ball, and a generous interpretation says he did absolutely everything you can do without quite stepping over the line egregiously; a sensible one says penalty. The ref, though, prefers to let things run, though there was a hand in back, an arm a across, and a meeting of legs.

BRISTOL CITY RETORT
Scott poking about on the edge of the box and lovely feet help his side win a corner ... which comes to nowt, his eventual cross cleared. City country, but De Bruyne can't quite switch to Foden.

GOAL! Bristol City 0-1 Man City (Foden) And there it is! A big switch hits Mahrez, whose first touch is as velveteen as you expect it to be. He finds De Bruyne, nips in behind, collects the return, and punches a perfect ball across and along the ground, for Foden to confidently snap home at the far post.

THE GAME IS SETTLING INTO A PATTERN
City dominating and probing, not quite getting in, then going again.

IT'S BEEN A GOOD, FAST START TO THE GAME
Bristol City aren't waiting to be asked, putting pressure on City and targeting the space in behind their high line.

NOW HERE COME THE HOSTS!
Akanji slips in midfield and Bristol City get Bell away, who races into the box, left-hand side, and though he has Wells square, opts to shoot, the ball deflected behind for a corner ... which comes to nowt.

PHILLIPS WANTS A PASS FROM MAHREZ, 25 YARDS OUT
He doesn't get it as quickly as he wants it, and has to take a touch ... before unfurling a brutal shot that clobbers the bar!

AWAY WE GO!
The atmosphere is good, the camera angle is ... not. it's vertiginously high and kind of slanted too.

A ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR JOHN MOTSON
Now he really loved the FA Cup.

MAN UNITED DID THAT AT WEMBLEY ON SUNDAY
I was there, in their end, and didn't even know about it till I read about them on the internet later on. I did think it was odd how all my mates seemed to be wering one though.

HERE COME THE TEAMS!
The Bristol City fans have been given scarves to twirl.

"FA CUP AWAY, ALWAYS DIFFICULT"
Says Guardiola. He's made changes but says all the players want to play, and on Phillips, making just his second appearance for City, he says he's "come to a new reality" but think he's ready. "Thank you so much" he says afterwards, with the sincerity of Basil Fawlty.

"AN INTERESTING TIE FOR US"
Deadpans Pearson. His players have worked really hard to turn their form around, the Cup run has been part of it, and this is their reward. They're excited to compete with one of the best sides in the world and know they'll have to put it in physically, but they have good players too - they know they'll have chances, just not as many as in the Champo. Asked specifically about Scott, he praises his ability and his brain, then says his team have a style, and he's wants his boys to enjoy and express themselves.

HE BECAME SOMETHING OF A CARICATURE
But make no mistake, Pearson is a smart man who knows ball. As Jon Holmes, the former Leicester chairman notes in the interview below, the squad that won Leicester the title was pretty much assembled by him.

TALKING OF PLAYERS PLAYING TWO POSITIONS
I don't know if it was Pearson who said it, but when N'Golo Kante was at Leicester, someone once joked that in midfield they'd pick Drinkwater, with Kante on either side - such was his engine.

I'M GLAD BERNARDO IS BACK IN THE MIDDLE
He doesn't have the pace to pay out wide, but has the engine, feet and brain to be brilliant inside. I'm surprised he fell out favour for a bit.

AS FOR MAN CITY
Google think they're playing a back three, with Lewis alongside the lesser-spotted Kalvin Phillips. I'd almost forgotten about him! Anyhow, I guess Lewis will also look after the right-back are when he can - and this might be a new development in the game: ridiculously athletic and talented players able to occupy two spots on the pitch, to allow for greater ball-dominance and an extra attacker. In front of that double-pivot, City have Mahrez, De Bruyne, Bernardo and Foden. Tasty.
