The back four has worked quite well for England in this first half. You have to wonder if this is the natural shape for this group of players and not the three-at-the-back system Southgate likes.

That was a disappointing delivery. England had players up from the back for the corner kick, but the cross doesn't even beat the first man and Switzerland can comfortably clear the danger.

England really should be ahead by now. They have created three or four really goo opportunities to find the back of the net, but Switzerland are also capable of causing problems.

Seferovic in behind! Delph gets the offside trap wrong, allowing the Swiss striker in on goal. However, Maguire makes the ground up on Seferovic and makes the late tackle to block the shot!

What an incredible crosser of the ball Alexander-Arnold is. People were raving about Trippier's deliveries at the World Cup last summer, but TAA has to be England's best crosser since Beckham!

Alli should score! Another exceptional cross from Alexander-Arnold picks out the run of Alli in the middle, who was completely free. But the Spurs midfielder sends his powerful header over the crossbar!

There's a lack of urgency about this match at the moment. This is perhaps what we expected before kick off, but the game started at a good pace. It has dropped off since then.

Alli has been quiet in this first half. Lots of movement between him, Kane and Lingard, but the Spurs man has been left frustrated in his search to get on the ball running towards goal.

Switzerland have kept England at arm's length for much of this match, but they have struggled to create chances of their own. This time a move breaks down after a wayward Fernandes pass.

Another chance for Sterling! England have had three big chances in this first half. This time, Alexander-Arnold puts the low ball into the near post, but Sterling, in behind his marker, misses his shot.

England are seeing plenty of the ball at the moment. Maguire steps forward into midfield, but doesn't see much in the way of options ahead of him. Switzerland are well organised.

Xhaka... woeful! We know that the Arsenal midfielder can strike them from distance, but he gets it all wrong this time, sending a low effort dribbling wide of Pickford's near post. No drama.

Just a reminder that this match will go to extra time and penalties if the two teams cannot be divided after 90 minutes. I'm sure that's what all these players want at the end of their season...

Kane has looked sharper in the opening exchanges of this match than he did for Spurs in the Champions League final when, to be frank, he just wasn't fit enough to start a match of that magnitude.

This is the chance that Sterling should have scored.
