Asked about their prospects before the game, Rossi said: "Both Germany and Italy are aiming to win this group and their fate is still in their own hands.

Speaking ahead of the match, Hansi Flick, the Germany manager, has urged his players to show their mettle against a combative Hungary side. "We have to be brave against Hungary," he said. "They're very compact, their coach Marco Rossi is doing a very good job there.

"Our goal is to finish as group winners after these next two games and to qualify for the final four."
