If Portugal score again, and Scotland-Spain stays as is, they're going through with England.

GOAL! Portugal 1-1 England (Mendes) Neto moves inside, then with the outside of her right boot, glides a brilliant reverse pass into the path of Silva. Her first low cross is kicked away by Bassett, but straight back to her, and is immediately drilled across to Mendes who forces home at the back post.

Costs and Silva combine down the left and Potter's heavy touch allows Antues to pounce. Eventually, the ball finds its way to Neto, at inside-right and 25 yards from goal....

Duggan finds Scott down the right and her cross is bundled behind for a corner. Greenwood swings it in, but Pinto heads away uncontested at the near post.

Diana Silva attempts to inject some pace into Portugal's build-up, but eventually Greenwood flings herself into a challenge with Borges and snicks the ball into touch.

Of all this lot, Duggan is perhaps the one pushing hardest for a starting spot in the first XI; or at least, her inability to get one reflects most strongly just how good England are.

Borges gives it away to Christiansen, who immediately looks to release Duggan. But the ball is too strong and Portugal escape.

GOAL! Portugal 0-1 England (Duggan) Oh dear! Oh yes! With time to do whatever, Morais clumps a clearance into Duggan's calves and the ball sits nicely in her path. But even so, the chip she stubs into the net is beautiful; that's a lovely finish. Morais looks like she might cry.

Anyway, the free-kick is whatevz - get me! - and headed clear easily by Bassett.

Williams is late on Silva down the left flank but 40 yards from goal. The ref decides that her offence merits a booking; it really does not.

Thinking a little more about England's changes, they do not, I don't suppose bow to the immutable law of Smartarse's Comeuppance.

It's a quiet start. England are knocking the ball about with confidence while Portugal scurry in between them. Borges snaps in on Duggan down the left and England build again.

Mark Sampson has an extremely unusual beard; I think it's the space between lower lip and chin, and the space between them containing a strip rather than a mat. More news as I get it.
