Italy have plenty of attacking quality, but so far they have relied on long balls over the top and passes into the channels. They aren't the best at making the ball stick on the edge of the box.

Spain get caught out, with a long ball played over the top for Belotti to chase. He seemed to be clear through on goal with Pique chasing, but the flag was raised for offside. Not sure about that call.

Some of the passing has been really slack from Italy in this first half. Part of this is down to the pressure being applied by Spain, but they are still capable of better. Much better.

All of a sudden this game has opened up. Italy are making progress down the right wing, slinging crosses into the area. Not sure that tactic will work when they have to beat Ramos and Pique in the air.

PIQUE CHANCE! The cross from Koke from the right wing was a dangerous one, with the Barcelona defender getting on the end of it, but he couldn't climb high enough and headed over.

DE ROSSI HEADER! The Italy midfielder gets on the end of a cross into the penalty area, but Spain survive, with the header flashing over the bar. The visitors are finally making a fight of this.

This is better from Italy, with the away side starting to keep possession in the opposition half, but De Gea makes the save from Belotti. That was Italy's first attempt on goal so far.

Darmian plays the cross into the penalty area from the left wing, but it drifts long and out for a goal kick. Italy ae having trouble getting service to Immobile in the final third. Toothless.

While the shot from Isco was sensational, some are criticising the reaction of Buffon to the freekick. It's true that the Italian goalkeeping legend might have moved his feet quicker.

So will that goal force Italy to come out and actually play some football? Their defence has been the basis of their campaign under Ventura, but that has been breached already here.

Sensational strike from Isco. He has really come into his own over the past year or so. He has become a key figure for Real Madrid in that time and he is becoming the same for Spain.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Spain 1 (13 mins - Isco) Italy 0. What a strike! Spain have the lead and they deserve i having dominated the opening exchanges of this match. Isco took the freekick on the edge of the box and curled his effort over the wall and into the back of the net.

There's another booking, with Bonucci shown a yellow for bringing down Asensio on the edge of the box.

This has been a strong start to the match by Spain. They are the ones dictating the play in the opening 10 minutes of the match. Italy are having to dig deep to keep them out.

RAMOS STRIKE! Spain win the freekick on the edge of the box, with the home crowd chanting for Asensio to take it. But Ramos steps up and sends his shot over the crossbar.
