Welcome to live coverage of Poland versus England in World Cup Qualifying Group I in the European zone. It’s usually good, this fixture, particularly when it’s connected to the World Cup. Although the common perception regarding Poland is that they are a bogey team for England in this competition, the record doesn’t bear this out. Poland have only beaten England once in 20 attempts, a 2-0 victory in June 1973 that set up the result that really grates on England; a 1-1 draw at Wembley four months later that knocked England out of the World Cup and spelled the end for Alf Ramsey. Since then, England have had the upper hand. A hat-trick by Gary Lineker in Monterrey (you may have heard him mention it) set England on their path to meet with Diego Maradona in Mexico 86, while Bobby Robson’s team then survived – just – a late crossbar wobbler from Ryszard Tarasiewicz in 1989 that almost nixed England’s Italia ’90 love-in seven months ahead of the tournament. Overall, England have won 12,

Sterling beats Moder to a bouncing ball and suddenly England are on the break. It's three on three for a moment but Moder tracks Sterling for his entire 50-yard jaunt and wins the ball back for Poland.
32'
Shaw sloppily gives the ball away and Poland pile forward again. Moder cuts in from the left and has a yahoo at goal from distance, but it flies way, way over the bar.
29'
CHANCE! Lewandowski wins the ball 30 yards from goal with a superb sliding tackle. He then plays a one-two with Linetty and he gets to the bouncing ball first, but can't connect enough to lift it over Pickford who gathers awkwardly.
27'
Walker quarterbacks a long ball over the top to Grealish, who does well to keep it in play. Glik's all over him though, and dumps Grealish on the floor before retrieving the ball.
24'
England are slowly taking control here. There's lots of patient and precise passing, but it's also a long way from the Polish goal.
21'
A half-chance for England, who work the ball patiently to Sterling on the right. He jinks by Puchacz and stands up a cross to the back post, but Kane sends a wayward header back across goal and Poland clear.
18'
Poland work a crossing chance on the left. Puchacz curls it into the area and around the back of Maguire, but Buksa can't connect as he slides in.
16'
Grealish wins a corner for England. Shaw takes and it breaks to Mount on the edge, whose shot is smothered and Poland clear.
14'
Lewandowski gets into space for the first time, jinking to his left and feeding Moder on the left of England's area. Moder can't quite sort his feet out though, and hits a feeble cross straight to Pickford.
12'
Jozwiak flies in on the foul-enticer Grealish. It's late and studsy, but Siebert takes no further action. Grealish isn't amused.
11'
Poland are really up for this, and snapping around the heels of the England players. Bednarek robs Sterling of the ball in midfield and it briefly looks like Poland might be away, but it's pulled up for a foul.

Early bother for Phillips. After trying to roulette away from danger he accidentally treads on the top of Puchacz's foot. Painful but accidental I'd say; either way, he's going in the book.
7'
Krychowiak wins a corner for Poland. It skids through England's penalty area and then a flash shot from the edge ricochets away to danger. This is a good start from Poland.
5'
A chance on the volley for Puchacz on the left of England's area. He connects sweetly with the ball, booming it at goal, but Walker gets his body in the way to block it.
4'
It's a frenetic start, but so much so that neither side can keep hold of the ball here. It's a lively old atmosphere in Warsaw tonight.

Peep! We're underway.

England's players take the knee, and there follows a dismal chorus of booing in the packed stadium. There is no room for racism in life folks, anywhere, ever.
19:43
The respective anthems are down, and we're ready to go. England are resplendent in their rather fetching blue away short.
19:40
The teams are heading out, it's almost time. The referee tonight is Daniel Siebert.

At the other end of the pitch is one H Kane of the Spurs. On Sunday he converted a penalty against Andorra to move to 40 international goals, putting him in joint fifth place with Michael Owen for the all-time record for the men's national time. Still to be reeled in are Jimmy Greaves (44), Gary Lineker (48), Bobby Charlton (49) and Wayne Rooney (53).
