This game has given us more drama in the last four minutes than the previous 117. The substitute Dzemaili hits the post with a header and then somehow contrived to put the rebound wide. That was a colossal chance for some late drama and to take it to penalties after all. That might be that.

Di Maria wins it for Argentina! They break from a Swiss attack and it comes to Messi, who runs through the centre, and plays a pass out wide for Di Maria, who uses his left foot to lash it past Benaglio and into the bottom corner. Gut-wrenching for the Swiss, who only had three more minutes to hold out.

Some of the players can hardly pick themselves off the pitch, but Di Maria is still haring away at full speed to chase loose balls. He'll surely be one of the first to step up if this goes to spot-kicks.

Zabaleta gets down the right with some fine play but his cross can't find Rodrigo Palacio. Penalties are looking very likely.

Argentina attacks coming thick and fast now. Di Maria cuts inside and sends in a shot but Djourou heads it away. A corner results, but it's poor.

Messi decides to run himself, and holds onto the ball as he darts past defenders, but he can't get in a position to shoot and his pass into the centre is cut out. Switzerland holding on nicely.

Switzerland miss a good chance to break after Seferovic is too cowardly to go in with Zabaleta for a 50/50, and normal service resumes.

Out of nowhere, DI Maria has the ball out wide and lashes in a vicious effort which is just about creeping in, but Benaglio tips it over.

Argentina make two changes. Biglia for Gago, Basanta for Rojo. Very unadventurous - perhaps with penalties in mind?
