Belgium win to claim the bronze medal - their best ever finish at the World Cup. They just had too much for a young and inexperienced England side.

And that's it for England's remarkable adventure in Russia. They have reconnected with the country, but the last two performances have shown there is a long way to go. It has been a lot of fun but now Gareth Southgate's side must refocus and strive to improve for the European Championships in 2020.

Now we must look forward to France vs Croatia in tomorrow's World Cup final - it's going to be thrilling!

After the disappointment fades, England will look back on a positive World Cup campaign. Football didn't quite come home but Southgate will be delighted with the progress this young side has made.

Loftus-Cheek concedes possession and now Belgium are on the break. They produce a scintillating counter-attacking move, as De Bruyne releases Hazard, he crosses for Meunier whose first-time shot is brilliantly stopped by Pickford.

Lingard flicks on Trippier's cross but Kompany is well positioned to head it clear.

Belgium are content to sit deep and break on the counter-attack when the opportunity arises. And here they come, as De Bruyne leads the charge and feeds Mertens. The forwards cuts inside from the flank but curls his effort well wide of Pickford's goal.

Another chance for England goes begging! Trippier with yet another wonderful delivery finds Maguire at the back post, but the Leicester defender fails to direct his header on target.

Alderweireld climbs highest to head it out for a throw-in on the opposite side. The ball is released to Lingard whose cross finds Dier but he glances his header wide!

Dier plays a one-two with Rashford to carve open the Belgium defence! The Tottenham midfielder dinks it over Courtois but his club team mate Alderweireld makes a crucial goal-line clearance!

England are getting plenty of bodies forward and finding space in the wide areas now.

Loftus-Cheek is found on the left but his cross is deflected away from Kane. Then Rashford tries to deliver a cross but Vertonghen rises highest to clear.

Wow, De Bruyne is human after all as he plays a poor pass in the direction of Meunier and England recover possession.

England try a different approach from the corner this time, as Trippier finds Kane on the edge of the box. The Tottenham forward mis-hits his first-time effort and Belgium can now launch a counter-attack.

Lovely build-up play from England as they move the ball quickly in midfield, eventually working the ball to Trippier whose cross is turned behind by Meunier.

Belgium play the corner short, with Hazard dancing his way through a handful of England defenders. However, he is eventually stopped by Dier who makes a superb tackle on the edge of the box.

Hazard feeds Meunier on the overlap but Delph makes a crucial challenge to force the corner, as Belgium continue their pursuit of a second goal.
