Stevens in World Open

Matthew Stevens overcame a gritty Darren Morgan to qualify for the final stages of the World Open in September.

Stevens had begun with breaks of 104 and 84 before Morgan dragged him back to 2-2, but he held on win the final frame 65-1.
Joining Stevens in the last 32 were Liu Song, 3-1 victor over Michael Holt, and Ricky Walden, who crashed in 103 on his way to beating Andy Hicks 3-1.
There was good news for the Scots ahead of their home tournament too as veterans Alan McManus and Marcus Campbell both found a way through the qualifers.
McManus had too much nous for Anthony McGill, winning 3-0, and Marcus Campbell beat Simon Bedford 2-1.
Elsewhere Marco Fu survived a scare to beat Alfie Burden 3-2 having been two frames behind and Judd Trump conceded just 22 points en route to a 3-0 demolition of Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon of Thailand.
