Records tumble on day four

One world record, two European records and three championship records were set on Sunday night to complete the 2006 European Short Course championships in style.

Women's 400m Individual Medley
Alessia Filippi continued Italy's impressive meet by taking the gold medal in a time of 4:31.58 while Katarzyna Baranowska took silver and Anastasia Ivanenko won bronze.
Men's 200m Breaststroke
The 17-year-old Daniel Gyurta wrestled Slawomir Kuczko's title from him beating the Pole into second with a swim of 2:06.58.
Italy's Paolo Bossini took the bronze medal.
Women's 200m Freestyle
Otylia Jedrezejczak could only add a silver medal to her gold from the 200m Butterfly as France's Alena Popchanka produced a storming swim to set a new European record of 1:54.25 and take the gold medal.
Sweden's Josefin Lillhage came in a close third.
Men's 100m Individual Medley
Peter Mankov's seventh victory in this event was almost drowned out amidst the home support for the retiring Finn Jani Sievinen in an emotional race.
Vytautas Janusaitis came in a close second for the silver and Norway's Aleksander Hetland took the bronze.
Women's 100m Breaststroke
Great Britain's Kirsty Balfour captured her second medal of the championships adding the 100m Breaststroke silver to the 200m gold she won on Saturday.
Anna Khlistunova won the gold with a championship record of 1:05.73 while Janne Schaefer took bronze.
Men's 200m Freestyle
Filippo Magnini retained his title as the "strong man of freestyle" adding the 200m freestyle to his 100m crown with a swim of 1:42.54.
Massimiliano Rosolino made it an Italian one-two by taking silver and Pole Pawel Korzeniowski produced a solid swim from lane one to take the bronze.
Women's 100m Butterfly
Germany's Antje Buschschulte proved that is more than just a champion backstroke and freestyle swimmer by edging out Inge Dekker for the gold medal, with European and championship record holder Martina Moravcova in third.
Men's 100m Backstroke
Arkady Vyachanin used every inch of his height to his advantage when he just touched out Helge Meeuw in the 100m Backstroke having trailed the German for the entire race.
Fellow German Thomas Rupprath took the bronze in what was already his second swim of the night.
Women's 200m Backstroke
France's Esther Baron set the second new European record of the night winning the women's 200m Backstroke in a time of 2:04.08.
Iryna Amshennikova took silver while 15-year-old Elizabeth Simmonds of Great Britain produced a barn-storming swim to take the bronze.
Men's 50m Butterfly
Thomas Rupprath had to settle for silver in the final after setting a new championship record of 23.05 in qualifying fastest in the semi-finals earlier in the evening.
Croatia's Alexei Puninski took the gold in a time of 23.21 with Orn Arnarson of Iceland taking bronze.
Women's 50m Freestyle
Marleen Veldhuis set a new championship record of 23.69 on her way to beating World and European record holder Therese Alshammar into second.
Finland's Hanna-Maria Seppala delighted the home crowd once again adding the bronze medal to her 100m medley gold from Saturday night.
Men's 4x50m Freestyle Relay
Sweden's men's relay team - consisting of Stefan Nystrand, Petter Stymne, Marcus Piehl and Jonas Tilly - had endure a nervous few minutes before their World record and gold medal-winning swim of 1:24.89 was confirmed.
Sweden - adding the men's gold to the one the women had won the night before - beat France into second while previous World record holders the Netherlands took bronze.
