Novak Djokovic v Jannik Sinner - The Italian beats World No.1 Djokovic for the first time following a classic encounter at the 2023 Nitto ATP Finals in Turin

Rune’s rapid win as a result of Stefanos Tsitsipas’ retirement earlier means Djokovic will qualify for the semi-finals tonight if he beats Sinner.

Sinner can progress to the last four if he prevails in straight sets.

"The atmosphere was really, really nice. It's huge pleasure for me to play here in Turin, in Italy. Obviously, a little bit more pressure, but I managed it really well, so I'm happy."

Sinner revels in support of the Italian crowd following opening day win.

Djokovic has reached the semi-finals 11 times in 15 previous appearances at the year-end championships while Sinner is attempting to become the first Italian to make the last four in the tournament’s 54-year history.

Djokovic has an 8-7 record in the second match at Nitto ATP Finals, winning the last two years over Rublev (Stats via the ATP).

“I was very eager to win tonight’s match, get that monkey off my back.

"I won Paris, which put me in a much better position rankings-wise, and I knew coming into Turin I only needed to win one match. A big goal is achieved, everything else now is a bonus.”

"It kills me not to be able to finish this tournament. I'm really gutted that I wasn't able to finish the match. It's a shame also not to give that spot to someone else to at least try and do something with it.

"Unfortunately, I felt terrible on the court. I did what I could do in the best possible way to be ready and fit for this match, but it didn't work out for me."

First alternate Hubert Hurkacz will come in and meet Novak Djokovic in the Serb's final match of the round robin.

Stefanos Tsitsipas retired after three games of his Nitto ATP Finals match against Holger Rune due to injury.

It leaves Rune top of Green Group ahead of tonight's contest between the veteran Serb and the Italian starlet.

This is their fourth meeting with Djoker leading the match-up 3-0.

The Serb won their first encounter on clay in Monte Carlo in 2021 and has since won back-to-back showdowns at Wimbledon in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

This will be their first face-off on a hard court.
