Murray 1-2 Berdych. Murray gets his first point against the Berdych serve but the seventh seed is equal to his opponents brilliant defensive play this time around and works his way into the net to put away a forehand volley winner. It's a hold for 15 for Berdych who sneaks ahead once again.
Murray 1-1 Berdych. Murray also makes a good start to the match, despite dropping the opening point. A forehand winner across court, off a shorter return from Berdych, plus an ace helps Murray out to two game points. But a second serve gets punished with a cross court forehand return from the Czech before he levels at deuce with a booming forehand winner down the line after a cross court baseline exchange. Still Murray goes on to hold, from duece, scrambling but somehow managing to get to a great return from Berdych and flick his forehand across court with enough on it that the Czech nets his forehand approach shot reply.
Murray 0-1 Berdych. A very impressive opening service game from Berdych to get his account underway. The Czech holds to love with an ace out wide to kick the clash off, Murray thinkin he should have done better with a cross court forehand return at 30-0 up, the ball just catching the top of the tape and refusing to go over for a passing shot winner.

Murray won the toss and opted to choose ends. So it will be Berdych to get the clash underway by serving first

It's another cooler day in Melbourne. The temperatures are currently hovering around the 20 degree celsuis mark. It's bluster as well; a bit windy and cloudy. That will probably suit Murray better than it will Berdych.

Berdych is looking to reach just his second Grand Slam final (after reaching the Wimbledon title match in 2010) while Murray is bidding for his fourth Australian Open final alone having also got through to the last two in 2010, 2011 and 2013. And it would be an eighth Grand Slam final overall for the Scot if he were to win today.

The hard court record between the two is split exactly down the middle with Murray triumphing on three occasions (Dubai 2012, US Open 2012 and ATP World Tour Finals 2012) and Berdych also winning three (Adelaide 2006, Paris Masters 2011 and Cincinnati 2013). They have also split their two previous Grand Slam meetings evenly, with Berdych winning in the French Open fourth round in 2010 before Murray got his revenge at the US Open semi-final stage in 2012 before going on to win the title.

There were no meetings between the two players last year but Berdych won both of their most recent clashes, back in 2013 on the clay of Madrid and then again on the hard courts in Cincinnati.

This one promises to be an intriguing clash, Berdych is a man Murray has struggled against in the past. In their 10 previous meetings, the Czech player has racked up sixth victories compared to just four for Murray.
