"I'll try to regenerate perfectly now and give everything I have on Sunday," concludes Thiem.

Thiem has some nice words for Zverev, before adding, "To be honest, both of us could have won this today."

Thiem admits to liking the song 'Sweet Caroline' because it makes him feel like he's on a skiing holiday in Austria.

"I had some troubles in the first set - I think we both were nervous," admits Thiem.

"It was an unreal match again, two tie-breaks, so tough and so close, it was almost impossible to break him," says Thiem. "What a start to the season so far."

Zverev heads off the court quickly, leaving Thiem on court to have a chat with John McEnroe.

Some fine cross-court hitting from both players before a couple of errors from Thiem allows Zverev back into it. Maybe nerves from both of them as they overhit their shots. Thiem's forehand suddenly returns to his armoury and he hits a great one to take a 5-3 lead, then strikes just on the corner of the line to get himself three match points. Zverev saves one with an ace, but some superlative striking from Thiem means he takes the second. The pair hug at the net.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 6-6 ZVEREV: Absolutely walloping serving from Zverev, 213kmph followed by 211kmph. Another breaker it is.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 6-5 ZVEREV: Wild forehands from Zverev are gifting points to Thiem. Once again, the German has to serve to stay in this.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 5-5 ZVEREV: Thiem takes a massive swing and balloons his return, giving Zverev game point. But the German can't take it, finding himself wrong-footed at the net, and he starts to look a little nervous. First deuce of this set, and Zverev smacks an ace down the middle, following it up with a brave volley to take the game.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 5-4 ZVEREV: A 21-shot rally takes Thiem to game point, and Zverev is infuriated because his final shot was just a tad long. The German will now have to serve to stay in this.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 4-4 ZVEREV: So many errors in this match but it's made it fascinating to watch. Thiem's still struggling to connect with that forehand as Zverev hits his serve cleanly, with the fourth point of the game a vicious ace.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 4-3 ZVEREV: Veritably racing through the service games now - another hold for Thiem to love.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 3-3 ZVEREV: Lovely fluid movement from Zverev, coming up to the net again to place his shot carefully past Thiem.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 3-2 ZVEREV: Thiem holds to love too, Zverev isn't quick enough to do anything about it. And then Thiem goes to complain to the umpire about something.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 2-2 ZVEREV: Zverev adjusts his headband as he serves out to love and the clock ticks over to three hours.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 2-1 ZVEREV: Despite another double-fault, Thiem holds his serve and gets Zverev moving from side to side with some booming shots.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 1-1 ZVEREV: Before he serves in the third point of this game, Zverev is complaining about something to the umpire again, who replies, "I'll pass it on. I can't do anything right now." Unclear what the issue is, he holds with ease.

THIEM 3-6 6-4 7-6(3) 1-0 ZVEREV: Thiem is solidly ahead for the first time and is clearly energised by that super tie-break.
