MONTANES 6-4 2-4 - BREAK! Montanes gives himself a glimpse of a break as he goes up 0-30. A pinger of a forehand gives him double break point. Fognini rescues the first with an ace, and the second with a lovely pick up on the half-volley that leaves Montanes with no chance. Brilliant play from both players until Fognini nets for a break point. Missed, but another chance after a backhand winner and he takes it with little fuss.

MONTANES 6-4 - Fognini overpowers the Spaniard with a series of muscular forehands. He hits an ever so simple volley into the net and Montanes draws level. The Italian puts another simple ball into the net and it's suddenly break point. Fognini in a good position volleys straight down the middle and Montanes gets there to whip a forehand crosss court to take the set.

MONTANES 5-4 - Fognini arrows a backhand winner up the line, Montanes puts a forehand in behind the Italian who can't get it back in play. An ace from Montanes and he nudges ahead.

MONTANES 4-3 - Montanes with a cute drop shot, but he follows it up with a backhand that drops just wide. Fognini leaves a shot as he's at the net and risks embarrassment but it goes just long to his relief. He then slaps a forehand winner down the line to draw level. He has Montanes on the run and gets a break point...but doesn't take it. Double fault, but followed by a drop shot from behind the baseline and Montanes holds.
