Maria Sharapova rallies to win her third Italian Open title
Updated 17/05/2015 at 17:49 GMT
Maria Sharapova came from one set down to beat 10th seed Carla Suarez Navarro 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, sealing her third Italian Open title.
Third seed Sharapova looked slugging against her Spanish opponent in the first set and Suarez Navarro fought back from 1-3 and 3-5 down in the second to level at 5-5.
The defending French Open champion made a noticeable improvement in the second set, though, stepping forward on the court and attacking Navarro’s serve.
But Sharapova reeled off the next two games and tore through the decider against the tiring 10th seed, sealing victory in more than two and a half hours with her 39th winner.
Sharapova's first two titles in Rome came back-to-back in 2011 and 2012.
Later, Roger Federer faces Novak Djokovic in the men's final.
