FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 6-2 MONFILS. GAME, SET AND MATCH! FEDERER DOES IT! The Swiss champion recovers from two sets down and double match point to steam into the semifinal once again. An incredible effort -- that's why he's a 17-time Grand Slam champion and we're all watching.

FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 5-2 MONFILS. Monfils strings together a hold, warding off the looming breadstick. A couple of rippling forehand winners in there, but the lights are already out.
04:36
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 5-1 MONFILS. With haste, and a bundle of hopelessly missed returns from the other side, Federer holds to put himself within a game of victory seemingly mere minutes after he was staring down the barrel of double match point.

FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 4-1 MONFILS. BREAK! It’s all falling down now. Three thoughtless errors from Monfils, and then he doesn’t even bother to run for a good crosscourt forehand from his opponent. It flies past the Frenchman for a winner, and the match has already been conceded.
04:32
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 3-1 MONFILS. It took over four sets and three hours, but Monfils finally resorts to attempted trick shots, dumping a hot-dog into the net with little fight left. Needless to say, it isn’t the most difficult service hold of Federer’s career.
04:29
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 2-1 MONFILS. It looks like there could be another nail into Monfils’ coffin as more errors put Federer at 15-30 on the Monfils serve. The Frenchman is tentative as ever in the rally that ensues, but a missed backhand seems to put him at ease and he finally holds.
04:26
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 2-0 MONFILS. In the least unsurprising news ever, Federer follows up the break with an easy hold. More shanks fly off the Monfils racquet, and he is down by two games and with a mountain to climb before he even opened his eyes from the horrors of set four

FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 1-0 MONFILS. BREAK! In the most unsurprising news ever, Monfils dumps a couple of shots into the net, a couple miles out, and limply concedes his serve upon the restart. Perhaps the match, too.

FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 MONFILS. SET! Federer does it, and with ease. The second seed smashes down a few massive serves and rallies the crowd with a surging fistpump. Tremendous drama, and we’re going to five.

FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 6-5 MONFILS. BREAK! After netting the first few points of the game to fall down an ominous 0-30, it looked like Monfils was out of the woods as he rallied back with some big serving and controlled aggression. But out of nowhere, gone went the serve. Two double faults, and the break handed over on a platter.

FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 5-5 MONFILS. FEDERER errors his way to 15-40 and two match points down, only to return with brave, controlled aggression. He saves both! The first is scuppered with a big inside out forehand followed by a sweep to the net, and the second with a forehand down the line winner. A couple of big serves, and he survives as the crowd goes utterly insane.
03:56
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 4-5 MONFILS. The ninth game feels like something of otherworldly importance, and as Monfils continues to shout at himself, it’s clear he feels it too. Naturally, it also means that after all the bullish serving, he immediately misses a load of first serves here. No fear, Monfils carves out some big 105mph+ second serves and eventually holds after one deuce.
03:52
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 4-4 MONFILS. The crowd boo as Monfils checks a mark, and he responds by comically rolling his eyes at them. It’s the only eventful happening in a game that quickly turns out to be a routine serve-dominated hold for the second seed.
03:48
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 3-4 MONFILS. Monfils isn’t quite as angry as he was but he is still seemingly arguing with himself out loud. A couple of terrible shots – a horrific dropshot and a shank far out – attempt to derail his game, but the otherworldly serving continues as he smashes down a few aces and angrily holds.
03:44
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 3-3 MONFILS. There are no such problems for Federer. After the break, the second seed slams down a few big first serves and holds with a trademark rapid service game.
03:43
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 2-3 MONFILS. With a couple of hot-headed double fault, Monfils finds himself down break point. He responds by creasing his face into a frown and screaming at himself in a lengthy rant whilst smashing down massive first serves to scupper the danger and hold. A good tactic, then.

FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 2-2 MONFILS. BREAK! Well, that lasted long. Monfils isn’t finished and ups his aggression, turning on a crosscourt forehand winner to bring up break point. On the crucial point, the Frenchman brings his opponent to the net before crushing a backhand straight at him, and just like that it’s back on serve.

FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 2-1 MONFILS. Federer crushes a forehand winner, which brings about yet another loud cheer. After being missing in action all day, the Federer backhand comes to the party as he plucks one straight down the line to bring up two break points. They are saved by some strong Monfils serves, but Federer is feeling himself and comes again. A mis-timed forehand error from Monfils hands him the match, and Federer is on his way back.
03:23
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 1-1 MONFILS. It’s always interesting to see which language the Federer the polyglot punctuates his piercing forehands with, and today it has been “come on”. Regrettably, no cheering in his opponent’s native language to throw him off. The Swiss saves a break point with a forehand winner and cheers gleefully, but when a Monfils backhand error erases the second one, there is only relief. He eventually holds, but it was tight.
03:16
FEDERER 4-6 3-6 6-4 0-1 MONFILS. A bit more oomph from Monfils on his service game to open up set four compared to the previous one. A few big serves, a bullet crosscourt forehand off a short ball and more solid serving bring him an immediate hold.
