Wawrinka: "This is amazing. I came here without expecting. But every time I step on the court I try to win every match. I think I played a lot of tennis in these two weeks! I'm probably empty..." ... Sadly, there's no mention of 'the toe' from the on-court interviewer!

Djokovic to Stan in his on-court post-match interview: "You were the more courageous player... He just deserves this title... Well done."

Take a bow, Stan!

GAME, SET AND MATCH! - DJOKOVIC 7-6 4-6 5-7 3-6 WAWRINKA. Stan Wawrinka wins the third Grand Slam title of his career. It's a performance that has real echoes of the heroics that saw him sink Djokovic in four sets in last year's French Open. The Swiss is three from three in Slam finals with Wimbledon the only one missing from his collection. Once again he did it the hard way on serve, hitting back from 0-30 to snare championship point. The number three seed netted a forehand but regained his composure to take it on his second from deuce. Novak's toe will get some of the post-match focus but Wawrinka deserved this victory and that 13th Slam title will have to wait for the Serb.

He's not listening... but recovers from 0-30 to make 30-30... Two points away...
-
DJOKOVIC 7-6 4-6 5-7 3-5 WAWRINKA. After another medical time-out, Djokovic asks the serve-out question with an impressive hold to 15. Over to you, Stan...
-
DJOKOVIC 7-6 4-6 5-7 2-5 WAWRINKA. Stan is one game away! The Swiss puts Djokovic's anguished expressions to one side to easily hold to love. Nole goes straight to his chair for more treatment. You can see blood on the toe now, but you can't help feel Stan was the better player way before this issue cropped up.
-
DJOKOVIC 7-6 4-6 5-7 2-4 WAWRINKA. No sign of toe pain from Djokovic. He holds to love and stays in touch. Logic suggests the issue was fatigue and he wanted to time the breather to get into Stan's head.
-
You could say that Stan has gone 'toe-to-toe' with Djokovic here and is still looking good for the title...
-
DJOKOVIC 7-6 4-6 5-7 1- 4 WAWRINKA. Toe-gate almost got real! It's clearly divided opinion and undoubtedly affected Wawrinka. The Swiss wobbles from 30-0 up and is forced to make deuce and fend off break point with that trusty, go-to body serve. Djoker snares two more opportunities but can't make it happen. Wawrinka screams 'C'mon' and then whistles a stonking forehand down the line to just about maintain his advantage.

Toe-gate!

Djoker suggesting it's a toe nail and therefore an injury. Wawrinka is not happy. He complains to the chair umpire but the world number one gets his way. Many feeling it's 'loss of condition' and not an injury...

Stan Wawrinka moves to within one set of a first US Open title.

Stan Wawrinka claims the third set

DJOKOVIC 7-6 4-6 5-7 1-3 WAWRINKA. Djokovic has wilted under the intensity of this match. It's been epic, it's been sublime and it's been painful for him - but he's not done just yet. The Serb double faults to tee up double break point but makes deuce with an overhead putaway. He goes through the motions on his serve and it's almost as if Wawrinka gifts him some unforced errors to allow him on the board.
