We all knew this would be the quarter-final: it was obvious Muller would beat Nadal, while Cilic is seeded to get beaten here. I'm buying the longest rally at four strokes.

Excellent net-coverage from Muller at the end of an 11-stroke rally, the joint-longest of the match. But Muller then wrongfoots him with a forehand from the T, and Cilic follows an ace with a double-fault; 30-all! Muller then delivers a backhand winner, but ace number 33 relieves him of his break-point and body serve sets up matchpoint. Cilic serves wide to the backhand ... and Muller goes long! Cilic absolutely loves it, and he'll love it even more when he contemplates a semi against Querrey, not Murray. as for Muller, what a tournament he's had; his match against Nadal is the best I've seen in ages, and he seems to have found himself; let's hope he can keep it going.

Cilic makes his move, a forehand pass bringing him two break-points. And what a return he finds to take the first! Muller serves out wide to the forehand, 121mph - ! - but great footwork takes him to the ball and he pastes it back cross-court!

Muller just finds it all so easy, or at least isn't prepared to let go what he's been working for all his life. He races to 40-0, but then double-faults and hits a backhand into the net. But then he hammers down a serve, and we have ourselves a decider! Muller is an assassin! That's 12 out of 14 points, and one of the two he lost was with a double!

On the other hand, Cilic missed four break points in that set. Never mind!

Excuse me! Muller seizes the first point of the game, then Cilic misses a forehand. He composes himself, and the umpire tells him to get on with it - I believe he bounced the ball 24 times earlier in the match. And there are the karma police! Muller blocks back a return, it catches the top of the net, drops like a stone, and a big forehand gives him the break! He is such a fighter, and will serve for the set after change of ends.

Cilic goes up 0-15 but Muller draws level with an ace - following a Cilic challenge - and a superb smash, then a serve-volley, give him two game-points. Cilic goes long with a forehand, and there we go.
