Former world number one Serena Williams was back in action but lost to Russia's Alina Jidkova in the second round of the Austrian Indoor event . In the previous game, Jelena Jankovic (Serbia & Montenegro) beat Patty Schnyder (Switzerland) 6-2 6-2
Serena Williams looked so ill she could barley lift her racket at times as she suffered a 7-6 6-2
defeat to Russian qualifier Alina Jidkova in the second round of the Linz Open WTA tournament on Wednesday.
The former world number one seemed fine in the first set but called the trainer when she was 2-1 and a break down in the second.
Seeded three, the six-times grand slam winner seemed to be complaining of headaches and took some tablets but decided to soldier on.
Williams received a bye in the first round when Jidkova beat fellow Russian qualifier Vera Douchevina 6-2 6-1.
Another Russian, ninth seed Elena Bovina, saw off France's Marion Bartoli 6-3 6-1 and will meet Jidkova in the quarter-finals of the $585,000 event.
Earlier, seventh seed Patty Schnyder lost 6-2 6-2 to Serbia and Montenegro's Jelena Jankovic in their first round match. Jankovic won 10 baseline points to none in the first set as she dominated the Swiss player
