Pennetta will face fifth seed Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic, who knocked out 157th-ranked lucky loser Martina Muller of Germany 7-6 (7-3) 5-7 6-2.

Medina Garrigues will play Bulgarian Tszvetana Pironkova, who recorded a 4-6 7-5 6-2 victory over 180th-ranked wild card Nathalie Vierin of Italy.
