Quinn Simmons (Trek-Segafredo), Alexis Vuillermoz (TotalEnergies), Taco van der Hoorn (Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert), Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo), Florian Vermeersh (Lotto Soudal) and Brent Van Moer (Lotto Soudal) are all in the mix as the longest stage of the race gets going in dramatic fashion.

THREE NON-STARTERS TODAY: HAIG, GOGL AND OSS
For the second year running, Jack Haig's Tour has come to an end before it's really got started. The Australian (below) went down in the incident involving a hay bale that also floored his compatriot Caleb Ewan as well as GC riders Primoz Roglic and Geraint Thomas. Austria's Michael Gogl was another non-finisher yesterday, while Italy's Daniel Oss collided with a spectator in spectacular fashion, completed the stage but cannot continue today for TotalEnergies.

THE FACE OF YESTERDAY'S WINNER OVER THE COBBLES
At this point, Simon Clarke didn't know that he had achieved his long-standing dream of a stage win on the Tour de France. But the jury decided that the Aussie veteran had won in a photo finish with his fellow escapee Taco van der Hoorn. The Dutch debutant looked to be on course for a wonderful win but Clarke dug deep on the home straight in Arenberg and won it by a whisker. And you have to feel for Clarke because on any normal day, his win would have been the talk of the town. But yesterday's stage over the cobbles was far from a normal day...
