Messina won promotion to Serie A on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Como, securing fourth place in Serie B for the Sicilian club. Messina return to the top flight after a 39-year absence and join fellow Sicilians Palermo who won promotion along with Cagliari
The island of Sicily had been without Serie A football since Palermo were relegated 31 years ago but can now look forward to a top-flight derby.
Bergamo club Atalanta, who won 3-0 at Treviso, will take the fifth promotion spot if they get at least a point from their final game of the season.
Serie A expands to 20 clubs next season with three teams going down, Ancona, Modena and Empoli, while five go straight up.
Perugia who finished 15th must play-off over two legs with the sixth place side in Serie B.
Fiorentina are almost certain to be the ones to face Perugia after their 1-0 win over Torino guaranteed at least a sixth place finish.
The Florence club can win automatic promotion only if they win their last game and Atalanta lose.
