GOAL! Chelsea double their lead! Fabregas, Willian and Hazard link up beautifully, before Willian blasts a low shot into the net.

Promising stuff from Schalke as they burst forward through Choupo-Moting. But again Boateng lets them down by giving the ball away cheaply. To top it off he rushes to win it back and concedes a clumsy foul. He looks up to the sky with a sigh - not his night so far.

For a moment it looks as though Chelsea have a free header and another chance to nod the ball into the net but Costa is pulled up for a foul.

Lovely link up play between Costa and Oscar, who exchange flicks on the edge of the box. Costa blasts a shot off but it's blocked and deflected wide.

Costa is on the hunt, chasing down a loose ball but Schalke keeper Ralf Fährmann is out to boot it away.

Schalke tap it round for a while in midfield. Side to side and back again. It's slow and they're not really going anywhere, but feeling their way into the game. Boateng then breaks the mould, aiming a diagonal ball towards Uchida on the right but overcooking it.

Marco Hoger is the first name into the book for a clumsy one on Eden Hazard, who's far to skillful for most people.

Schalke manage to get their foot on the ball in the middle of the park. That near miss may have sparked some life into them.

What a let-off there for Chelsea. It would have been harsh given their dominance so far, but that looked for all the world like it was going to hit the net.

Schalke hit the bar! Thibaut Courtois breathes a sigh of relief as a shot from Choupo-Moting deflects off Cahill, looping up and onto the bar.

Boateng concedes a foul now as Schalke still struggle to get on the ball.

More danger for Schalke! Kevin-Prince Boateng gives the ball away sloppily and Chelsea break through Willian. Diego Costa is almost slipped in, and when the ball does fall to him he bursts into the box and to the byline for a neat cutback. The hosts scramble it away and clear their lines.

Chelsea give the ball away cheaply but win it straight back again. They're hungry and Schalke can't get a grip here.

What a blistering start from Chelsea. They look so good and Schalke are in for a long night at this rate.

Chelsea go close again! Another corner and Gary Cahill nods it down for Branislav Ivanovic, who has to hit the target put instead blasts over the bar.

A dream start for the visitors. In the build-up to that corner Diego Costa had gone close, too. Chelsea mean business.

GOAL! Chelsea take the lead! It's John Terry who outjumps Howedes and heads home from a corner. What a start!
