That was a fun game. It lacked the intensity of one that meant something, but there was lots of nice association football to enjoy. So Madrid progress to the knockouts behind Spurs, where they'll reward some groupwinner or other, and Dortmund go looking for Arsenal in the Europa League.

Llorente slices a shot from outside the box which flicks off Schmelzer, and Madrid have another corner ... which comes to nothing.

Madrid haven't let up since going in front a second time - Dortmund can't get hold of the ball to go for an equaliser.

Llorente finds Theo with a lovely flick who, seeing the keeper off his line, swings a shot towards the far post instead of the expected cross, and Burki frantically back-peddles ... but the ball drops just wide.

Ronaldo's looked really sharp tonight, and he darts across the face of the box off the left, swivelling into a low shot that's too close to Burki, down by his near post.

Lucas Vasquez zips forward and finds Asensio, whose cross is too strong for Ronaldo.

Madrid earned that goal; they've been knocking at the door for 15 minutes now.

The ball drops to Theo, who sets for Vasquez - outside the box, left of centre - and he contorts his body to use the outside of his right foot, forcing the ball across Burki and in.

Madrid use the corner to force another, and Casemiro outjumps Weigl to nod down ... and Ronaldo turns home! Except he's called for offside ... looking at a reply, that looked on to me.

Lucas crosses very well from the right and only a desperate lunge from Subotic can divert the ball behind.

Looking again at the penalty claim, Subotic did impede Ronaldo, but cunningly enough to escape detection. Well played.

Madrid are getting closer, Asensio going down the right and standing up a cross to the back post; Mayoral nods it back, but too gently, and Ronaldo can't generate the power necessary to beat Burki.

Lovely low, swinging cross from Theo ... Mayoral and Ronaldo both stretch for it .. but neither can get there. Ronaldo wants a penalty, saying Subotic pulled him back, but it looked fine to both me and the referee.

Madrid are dominating now...

Ceballos has looked lively, and he curls in a cross towards the back post on which Ronaldo can't get enough.
